Derek —
See below feedback I received from Heath Slaughter, our ENVIRONMENTAL Review Officer.
Can you advise further on whether your plan has any impact towards noted concern ?
Other than that, the stream restoration plan you forwarded would likely not be any problem to the DOT.
Thanks - Doug

Subject: RE: Stream Restoration in Ashe County
The main thing is to ensure that the cross vane closest to our road isn't going to back too much substrate material into
our pipe /culvert, thus reducing its capacity. This did happen on an Avery County project...... All of the structures
downstream would not appear to be an issue for us.

Derek —
I have shared your forwarded plans with both our Division Environmental Officer & the Division 11 Bridge Maintenance
Engineer for their review / comments.
As you noted, the planned stream restoration section begins near the existing bridge located on SR 1108 (George
Shepherd Road) in Ashe County.
Following our review, the NCDOT does not have any concerns regarding this proposal, with no perceived impact to
either the roadway or the bridge.
The remainder of the restoration project is located away from the roadway and would be beyond any area administered
by our operations.
Please advise if you should need anything further regarding this proposal.
Sincerely — Doug Tetzlaff (North Wilkesboro DOT District field office — phone # 336/903 -9146)
