[EXTERNAL] Jordan Lake Water
Dear U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Wilmington District Mr. Justin Bashaw,
I urge you to please oppose the use of SolarBees on Jordan Lake. As someone who uses Jordan Lake regularly, I can
easily see that the water is filthy and unsuitable for drinking. If it is not cleaned, one day soon the lake will also be
unsuitable for recreational purposes. The federal Clean Water Act requires that pollution be treated at the source of the
problem, not downstream in public waters. By employing floating mixers (known as SolarBees) downstream in Jordan
Lake the state is not complying with federal law. This is unacceptable!
Jordan Lake is plagued by nitrogen and phosphorus pollution from upstream sources and these unproven floating mixers
do not treat that. When these mixers fail to do their job, the condition of Jordan Lake will be worse than ever.
Please oppose the use of SolarBees on Jordan Lake.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Susan McClanahan
