The federal Clean Water Act requires that pollution be treated at the source of the problem, not downstream in public waters. By employing floating mixers (known as SolarBees) downstream in Jordan Lake the state is not complying with federal law. This is unacceptable! SolarBee technology is not to remove pollutants from water, but rather to stir up blue -green algae. It will do nothing to reduce nitrogen, phosphorus, fertilizers, dirt, oil and chemicals that endanger public health, as well as so many other aspects of the lives of people in the area. North Carolina, as a state, already is plagued with a multitude of environmental problems currently and unfortunately we currently have a state government who are seemingly being paid off to turn a blind eye to the problem. Please don't exacerbate our environmental problems by using a technology that has been proven will not clean up the problem. As an arm of the federal government, I strongly urge you to employ more tried and true methods of cleaning up Jordan Lake. Jordan Lake is plagued by nitrogen and phosphorus pollution from upstream sources and these unproven floating mixers do not treat that. When these mixers fail to do their job, the condition of Jordan Lake will be worse than ever. We really can not afford to make the situation worse. Please oppose the use of SolarBees on Jordan Lake. Thank you. Sincerely, Susan Allen 6824 Gloucester Road Raleigh, NC 27612
