Subject: [EXTERNAL] Jordan Lake Proposal
Mr. Bashaw,
I want to express my complete disapproval of the proposal to use giant circulators in Jordan Lake. This multi - million
dollar proposal, provided specifically for the benefit of one company that is cozy with legislators, uses unproven
technology in a lake of this size. It will not solve Jordan Lake's pollution problems.
It is insane to suggest that stirring the water around and not continuing to prevent more upstream polluted run -off will
improve the quality of the water. The NC Legislature should
have made a reasonable, scientific decision to cut back on additional run -off -- using erosion controls, rainwater gardens,
municipal waste water management, development set -back limits, and any other means to control additional pollution
before simply trying to stir up what's already there.
With the recent horrible Dan River coal ash pond spill, it is even more imperative that toxins, known to build up in the
bottom sediments of lakes and streams, not be stirred up into the water that is used as a drinking water source.
If past measures to control pollution and algae growth in Jordan Lake have not been as beneficial as hoped, other
methods should certainly be tried. It is senseless to allow more pollution, however, and use a ridiculous set of
giant, unsightly, hazardous -to- navigation mixers instead.
I completely and absolutely oppose the proposal for circulators in Jordan Lake.
Thank you.
