Subject: [EXTERNAL] Pollution in Jordan Lake
Dear U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Wilmington District Mr. Justin Bashaw,
Please oppose the use of SolarBees on Jordan Lake. A million people visit the lake each year to camp, swim, boat, paddle
or fish and these floating mixers pose a real threat. The mixers sit low in the water and could be easily missed by
boaters, water skiers and jet skiers. There is also no evidence that these mixers will work to clean up the pollution in this
popular recreational destination.
Mr. Bashaw, I'll just ask you this: do you swim in the lake? Do you allow your children to swim in the lake? We barely
ever visit Jordan Lake because of its pollution level and my discomfort with allowing my young children to swim in it. I
don't believe the lake is safe. These floating devices will only make it less safe, because: 1) the algae isn't the main
problem, and 2) now there are other objects for boaters to avoid. Please consider cleaning up the lake PROPERLY. We
all would like to use it safely.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Kirstin Huiber
