The federal Clean Water Act requires that pollution be treated at the source of the problem, not downstream in public waters. By employing floating mixers (known as SolarBees) downstream in Jordan Lake the state is not complying with federal law. This is unacceptable! Jordan Lake is plagued by nitrogen and phosphorus pollution from upstream sources and these unproven floating mixers do not treat that. When these mixers fail to do their job, the condition of Jordan Lake will be worse than ever. I am a frequent user of Jordan Lake (fishing, boating, etc.) and I can truly say that the quality of the water has steadily deteriorated over the last few years; the fish are not nearly as abundant. As a career Army officer, I retired and moved to the Jordan Lake area for the recreation and drinking water source of the lake; the decline in water quality has negatively impacted both. Please oppose the use of SolarBees on Jordan Lake, as they will not do anything to prevent the pollution of the water, and in fact, will add safety concerns to boaters, swimmers and fishermen. Thank you. Sincerely, Donald Fowler 566 The Preserve Trail Chapel Hill, NC 27517
