Dear Mr. Roper:
Thank you for your submission of the aforementioned document. Based on its review, we find that the data
provided to us suggests that Lake Norman is supporting a Balanced and Indigenous Population (BIP) and
that Marshal (MSS) operations and thermal output are not causing observable negative effects to the lake
according to all DEP monitoring categories (fisheries, water quality, water chemistry, lake productivity,
habitat formers, or vertebrate wildlife). Also, trace element analysis in fish for arsenic, selenium, and
mercury look acceptable at the 3 MSS fish sampling stations, with only one exceedance of the USEPA
screening value for mercury (Alabama Bass, .57 ppm) noted at the upstream control station.
