RE: Stormwater Event
Mr. Lawyer,
On Thursday, March 17, Brian Lawson and myself were conducting a property inspection at our facility
located at 1201 McKay Place in Lillington. During the inspection, we found where egg material had been
spilled in our parking lot and subsequently washed onto our neighbor's property. The neighboring
property is owned by Harnett County. Upon investigation, we discovered that one of our contract truck
drivers had dumped egg contaminated rainwater from the back of his open top, end dump trailer into
our parking lot. There was approximately 100 gallons of water released from the trailer that had egg
residue in it. We estimated egg residue to be less than 20 gallons.
At that point, we immediately started the self -reporting process. We also contacted the neighboring
property owners. We spoke with Carl Davis, the Director of the Harnett County Parks Department, and
he came out and looked at the impact to their property. He gave us the go ahead to clean up on their
property.
We then contacted Boyer Enterprises East for cleanup. They brought in a vac truck on Friday and
cleaned up all areas of standing water that had egg/water contamination. The cleanup went well, and
everything was cleaned up to our satisfaction.
To be consistent with our Storm Water Exemption, we are implementing SOPS and training for all
contract drivers for proper disposal of rainwater in trailers. All future rainwater in trailers will be
brought inside our building and pumped into wastewater. All wastewater is removed from premises by
an outside carrier.
