Permit W40000020, Asheville Airport Fills December 2019 Resample Results for Groundwater Well M W-7A4 Dear Mr. Laverty Groundwater results were received by Duke Energy in December 2019 from the November 2019 required semi-annual groundwater well sampling event at the Asheville Airport. These results showed anomalous levels for conductivity, TDS, arsenic, sulfate, cadmium, manganese, nickel & selenium for well MW-7A4. Duke Energy immediately moved to collect a confirmatory sample from this well for analysis with Pace Analytical Laboratory with a split sent to the Duke Energy Laboratory. The confirmatory sample was collected on December 12, 2019. Both labs confirm the elevated conductivity, TDS, arsenic, sulfate, cadmium, manganese, nickel & selenium while turbidity remains under 10 NTUs. Due to sample dilution Issues, the resample result for boron from Pace Labs Is less than 2500 ppb while the Duke Lab result for boron is less than 50 ppb. As discussed in the field with you at the Asheville Airport on January 13, 2020, well MW-7A4 is located along Femcliff Park Drive and it is our understanding that underground utility work was performed in the vicinity of this well since the April 2019 sampling event. Duke Energy will continue semi-annual sampling, per above -referenced permit, and follow any trends at well MW-7A4. As the above -referenced permit requires the results on the GW59CCR, both resample results are included but the form Is not signed since It is not an NPDES permit. Also per the permit, these results are submitted in duplicate to the Central Processing Unit. When reviewing the parent sample date analyzed by PACE (J19120328), the lab re -ran the duplicate metals sample to double check the results. All results reported initially were consistent with the reanalysis except for selenium. It was detemlined the initial result was an outlier. The parent sample of the duplicate sample and the field blank associated with the sampling event were sent to PACE for analysis. The data will report underjob order J19120328. Data Flags & Calculations Any analytical tests or individual analytes within a test Flagged with a Qualifier indicate a deviation from the method quality system or quality control requirement. The qualifier description is found at the end of the Certificate of Analysis (sample results) under the qualifiers heading. All results are reported on a dry weight basis unless otherwise noted. Subcontracted data included on the Duke Certificate of Analysis is to be used as information only. Certified vendor results can be found in the subcontracted lab final report. Duke Energy Analytical Laboratory subcontracts analyses to other vendor laboratories that have been qualified by Duke Energy to perform these analyses except where noted. Data Package This date package includes analytical results that are applicable only to the samples described in this narrative. An estimation of the uncertainty of measurement for the results in the report is available upon request. This report shall not be reproduced, except in full, without the written consent of the Analytical Laboratory. Please contact the Analytical laboratory with any questions.
