Inspection Summary:
Tim Heim of the Asheville Regional Office performed a Compliance Inspection of the Collection System on February 17,
2022. Wes Royal (Collection System ORC) and Brian Shelton (Mayor) assisted with the inspection.
The following items requiring correction were noted at the time of the inspection:
Pump station facilities must be secured from the public. Complete repair the fences around the Turnpike and Galloway Road
stations. Install locks to prevent unauthorized access to all pump stations and other collection system infrastructure.
Replace pump station signage to reflect the new contact ORC operating the system (Royal Waterworks) and the associated
emergency numbers.
Maintain written document of biannual inspections of high priority lines and annual sewer line cleaning.
The following additional items were noted at the time of the inspection:
The town has put significant resources into maintaining collection system infrastructure since the last inspection, including
replacement of pumps, electrical panels and railings.
Future projects being planned include upgrading the telemetry system to a text based format, connection to the new force
main that will serve Gaia Herbs and extend along Hwy 64, and raising/sealing manholes located in the flood plain to reduce
