Both residuals sources produce a liquid slurry product. As part of the production process spent biomass solids are generated during the fermentation and enzyme recovery steps. In addition to the cellular mass from fermentation, Novozymes spent biomass may include off -spec fermentation raw materials, off - spec fermentation batches, or finished goods that do not meet customer quality standards. The onsite wastewater treatment facility generates waste activated sludge in the biological treatment of process wastewater. The onsite plant treats 100% industrial wastewater; all sanitary waste is sent to the Franklin County Publicly Owned Treatment Works. Residuals Treatment All sources of solid residuals are treated in the same manner. The residuals are pumped from the production area to one of two lime treatment systems, where either bulk lime or hydrated lime is added to achieve a pH set -point of 11-12 s.u. After the residuals have met the pH setpoint, they are pumped to three concrete storage tanks, equipped with mixing. The fourth concrete tank is proposed due to additional RO reject volume handling. To maximize storage capacity, a side -stream of waste activated sludge is processed via decanter centrifuge for dewatering prior to alkaline stabilization. The centrate water from this activity is returned to the process wastewater treatment plant. If needed, spent biomass can also be dewatered in this system. In the event of an emergency, dewatered residuals cake can also be sent to a roll -off dumpster for disposal through a third -party contractor. Residuals Storage Novozymes has on site residuals storage consisting of: 1. one 700,000-gallon concrete storage tank with three 20 HP mixers, 2. one 700,000-gallon concrete storage tank with three 20 HP mixers, 3. one 1.645-million-gallon concrete storage with three 20 HP mixers, 4. one 1.645-million-gallon concrete with pumped agitation (eductors) that is under construction in 2022, and 5. one 292,300-gallon glass -lined metal tank that is used as emergency residuals storage. Proposed modification The proposed permit modification is to 1) replace the 20HP mixers in 3 existing tanks identified above in items 1-3 with pumped agitation (eductors) to improve mixing and minimize solids accumulation in the tanks and 2) replace level transmitters, and 3) install pH probes and transmitters. The modification includes the following: 1. 700,000-gallon concrete storage tank A - replace existing 20 HP mixers with 60HP recirculation pump, piping, and eductors 2. 700,000-gallon concrete storage tank B - replace existing 20 HP mixers with 60HP recirculation pump, piping, and eductors 3. 1.645-million-gallon concrete storage tank C - replace existing 20 HP mixers with 125 HP recirculation pump, piping, and eductors 4. Introduction Novozymes North America, Inc. Franklinton site generates solid by-products during the manufacturing process and waste -water treatment. These residual solids (spent biomass, SBM) are disposed of as slurry @ 4-6% solids. The slurry is comprised of water, small fractions of inactivated liquid enzymes, cellular debris, waste activated sludge and lime. These residual solids generated are stored in three above ground concrete tanks after treatment. These tanks are equipped with submersible agitators (25HP Kruger) mounted on guide rail and are raised & lowered via cable. Inadequate mixing causes solids build-up in the tank bottom and reduces effective storage volume. Also, permit compliance is a concern due to pH variation. Levels in the tanks and agitator operation is monitored by site's BMS while pH of each tank is monitored through lab sample analysis. SBM Agitator Replacement - Basic Design project is about replacement of existing agitators with new pumped agitation (jet -mix nozzle system). The project aims to improve agitation within each SBM tank to eliminate solids accumulation and provide a completely mixed environment. All equipment will be integrated into site's DCS system and taken off the BMS system. Capex cost estimate of +/-10% will be arrived with the design. The project includes demolition of existing agitators, design of recirculation system and eductors and associated Civil, Electrical & Instrumentation elements. 1.1 APPLICABLE STANDARD NEC National Electrical Code NFPA 79: Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery NESC National Electrical Safety Code, NFPA National Fire Protection association ANSI American National Standards Institute IEEE Institute Of Electrical and Electronics Engineers NEMA National Electrical Manufactures Association UL Underwrite laborites IRS Novozymes Installation Requirement Specification 16000 Specs of Electrical Installation Center, State and Local Code 1.2 ABBREVIATION P Purchase D Demolition T Termination I Installation 504401_FLF6990003 Rev.
