NCDOT TO HOLD PUBLIC MEETING JANUARY 30TH IN LEXINGTON FOR THE
PROPOSED REPLACEMENT OF THE N.C. 8 (WINSTON ROAD) BRIDGE OVER U.S.
29 -64 -70 /BUSINESS 85
TIP Project No. B -3159
The N.C. Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting in January
regarding the proposed project to replace the N.C. 8 (Winston Road) bridge over U.S.
29 -64 -70 /Business 85 in Davidson County.
The meeting will take place on Thursday, Jan. 30th, at Lexington Senior High
School, located at 26 Penry Street in Lexington. The open house will be held in the
cafeteria from 4 to 7 p.m. Interested citizens may attend at any time during the above
hours as there will be no formal presentation. NCDOT representatives will be available
to answer questions and receive comments regarding the proposed project. Citizens will
also have the opportunity to submit comments and questions in writing.
Built in 1950, the existing bridge is reaching the end of its life cycle and needs to
be replaced to meet current and future traffic demands. The new bridge will
accommodate all traffic, including trucks and emergency vehicles, as it will -not be -
subject to the load restrictions of the current bridge. The bridge will also be raised to
provide for adequate clearance over US 29/64/70 /Business 85.
NCDOT is planning to replace the bridge at its current location. The interchange
ramps will be reconfigured and the existing pedestrian bridge over US
29/64/70 /Business 85 will be removed. Traffic will be maintained on -site during
construction. This project will require the acquisition of additional right -of -way, and
construction is scheduled to begin in June 2015.
