Vegetated Wetlands (C) Other Open Water 513sf of new shadlng (D) Total Area Disturbed New shading = 513sf (E) Primary Nursery Area No (F) Water Classification C SW Open No 8 PROJECT SUMMARY Applicant would like to construct a 14'x 38' roof over an existing boat slip using the pilings in Pailin Creek off of the Pasquotank River Richard Jordan Field Investigation Report Page 2 Proiect Settin The applicant Richard Jordan owns a residential lot at 125 Pailin Creek Road, in Pailin Creek Subdivision, adjacent to Pailin Creek Palin Creek is a tributary of Newbegun Creek, and Newbegun Creek is a tributary of the Pasquotank River, in Pasquotank County Existing structures on and adjacent to the property (in Pailin Creek) include a residence, a storage building and a bulkhead, with a 66'x 5' -4" pier, platform, gazebo and boat slip with ten pilings and a boatlift To the south of the pier are also two tie pilings as shown on the enclose drawings The existing pier is located 25' from the nearest riparian line The width of the creek is approximately 240' Lot 125 is 50,733 square feet in size within 114' of shoreline along Pailin Creek Coastal and non - coastal wetlands are located along the south side of the property, with high ground to the north Piers are located on both adjacent riparian properties more than 200' from the applicant's pier system Water depths at the existing boat slip are between 2 8' and 3 1' below normal water level While submerged aquatic vegetation is found within Pailin Creek, no vegetation was found within the existing boat slip and boat lift (area of the proposed boat house) Vegetation on the high ground area of the applicant's property is a mix of hardwoods, domestic grasses and ornamentals Vegetation within the wetland area is primarily composed of a mix of cattail and common reed The property has an average elevation of approximately 5' above normal water level, and the first 100' of high ground adjacent to Pailin Creek is located in an AE Flood Zone There are no known archeological or geological sites on or near the applicant's property Development Proposal The applicant would like to construct a roof over an existing boat slip consisting of ten 8" round -tip pilings and an existing boatlift The proposed roof will be 14'x 38' with a 6" overhang The area of the roof will be 532 square feet (sf), of which 19sf will over hang the existing pier The total area of shading by the new structure will be 513sf There is no water bottom disturbance proposed within the applicant's project Anticipated Impacts New permanent shading of open water resulting from the development being proposed will be 513sf Submitted by Lynn W Mathis Date November 22, 2013 Richard D Jordan 125 Pailin Creek Road Elizabeth City, NC 27909 PROJECT DESCRIPTION Nov I [ I Construct a roof over existing pilings and boat lift Existing pier (66' 1" long by 5' S" wide) hasten pilings located on the left side of the pier Pilings are spaced in two rows of five pilings, 37' long by 13' wide (outside dimensions) Roof will be constructed over the existing pilings with a 6" overhang Total sqft proposed is 532 Total sq ft covering water is 532 sqft minus 19 sqft overhang over existing pier = 513 sqft covering water Roof will be constructed with a truss supports with no storage space configured under the roof Roof will be plywood covered with architectural shingles similar to what has been used on the house No side walls will be constructed Approximate distance from the pier to the roof line is 6' 13,000 lb boat lift is in place on pilings number 3 and 4 and a 25' S" pontoon boat is currently resting on the boat lift The front of the pontoon boat is situated between pilings number 1 and 2 and the back of the pontoon boat is situated between pilings 4 and 5 ( *pilings are numbered from the bulkhead outward, piling number 1 is closest to the bulkhead.)
