Enclosed is a copy of the Compliance Evaluation Inspection conducted on May 24, 2001.
As part of the: inspection, a tour of the Water Treatment Plant was conducted. All
observations and recommendations are in Part D. (Summary of Findings/Comments) of this
inspection report. Remember, our goal is to insure the quality of the surface waters of this State.

Section D: Summary of Findings/Comments:
1. A copy of the NPDES permit was available upon request.
2. The Compliance Evaluation Analysis Report for the period of April, 2000 through March, 2001
revealed one permit violation. A violation occurred for the month of December, 2000 when
Settleable Solids was reported at a monthly average of 0.2 ml/L, which exceeded the 0.1m1/L limit.
3. Laboratory data for the months of November, 2000 and December, 2000 was reviewed. All.
data appeared to be correct as reported on the DMR's. The Robeson County, WTP Laboratory
is located at this facility and is a state certified laboratory. The required parameters for all Robeson
County water plants are analyzed at this site, except Iron. Iron is analyzed by the commercial
laboratory, Environment One. Also, all data for the County water plants are kept at this site. Records
for pH calibration were reviewed and are properly recorded.
4. Flow rate is determined by the total pump run time and the gallons per minute flow.
5. Wastewater from the filter backwash is pumped into an equalization basin where some settling occurs.
The wastewater is then pumped into a clarifier. The solids settle in the clarifier and the clear water
on top flows over the weirs and into the receiving stream. The sludge in the clarifier is pumped to
drying beds for proper dewatering. After adequate drying time, the solids are removed from the drying
beds and sent to the Robeson County Landfill for proper disposal.
6. The effluent was clear and appeared to be free of solids.
