GENERAL NOTES:
1. ALL FIELD LAYOUT AND SURVEYING FOR CONSTRUCTION OF THIS PROJECT SHALL BE PROVIDED BY THE CONTRACTOR AT HIS EXPENSE, UNDER THE DIRECTION OF
A LICENSED PROFESSIONAL LAND SURVEYOR.
2. EXISTING SUBSURFACE UTILITY HORIZONTAL ALIGNMENTS WERE ESTABLISHED THROUGH THE USE OF AVAILABLE RECORDS AND THEREFORE, ARE SHOWN IN THEIR
APPROXIMATE LOCATIONS. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL NOTIFY THE RESPECTIVE UTILITY COMPANIES NO LATER THAN 3 BUSINESS DAYS PRIOR TO COMMENCING WORK
IN A SPECIFIC AREA. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE VERIFICATION OF ALL UTILITY LOCATIONS WITHIN THE WORK AREA.
3. IT SHALL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONTRACTOR TO SHAPE THE PAVEMENT AT INTERSECTIONS, STREETS, AND DRIVEWAYS SO THAT POSITIVE DRAINAGE WILL
BE MAINTAINED WITH NO PONDING OF WATER AS A RESULT OF THE NEW CONSTRUCTION, AND THEY SHALL ADJUST AND/OR CUT EXISTING PAVEMENT AS
NECESSARY TO ASSURE A SMOOTH FIT AND CONTINUOUS GRADE.
4. PROPERTY MARKERS SHALL BE PROTECTED BY THE CONTRACTOR. THE CONTRACTORS REGISTERED SURVEYOR SHALL REPLACE ANY MARKERS THAT ARE DISTURBED.
5. ALL EXISTING TRAFFIC SIGNS WITHIN THE PROPOSED CONSTRUCTION LIMITS ARE TO BE PROTECTED BY THE CONTRACTOR. CAUTION SHOULD BE EXERCISED WHILE
RELOCATING EXISTING SIGNS WHERE DIRECTED. IF THE SIGNS ARE DAMAGED BEYOND USE, AS DETERMINED BY THE ENGINEER. THE DAMAGED SIGNS SHALL BE
REPLACED AT THE CONTRACTORS EXPENSE.
6. TOPS OF EXISTING MANHOLES SHALL BE RAISED AS NECESSARY TO BE FLUSH WITH PROPOSED PAVEMENT ELEVATIONS.
7. CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL NECESSARY INSPECTIONS AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED BY CODES AND/OR UTILITY SERVICE COMPANIES. THESE
INSPECTIONS AND ALL APPLICABLE FEES SHALL ALSO BE THE CONTRACTOR'S RESPONSIBILITY. THE FINAL CONNECTIONS OF THE SERVICE SHALL BE COMPLETED
30 DAYS PRIOR TO CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY.
8. IF ANY EXISTING STRUCTURES TO REMAIN ARE DAMAGED DURING CONSTRUCTION IT SHALL BE THE CONTRACTORS RESPONSIBILITY TO REPAIR AND/OR REPLACE THE
EXISTING STRUCTURE AS NECESSARY TO RETURN IT TO EXISTING CONDITIONS OR BETTER.
9. CONTRACTOR TO OBTAIN APPROPRIATE PERMITS AND PAY FOR CORRESPONDING FEES FOR WORK ON SITE AND IN THE RIGHT-OF-WAYS PRIOR TO BEGINNING OF
CONSTRUCTION IF APPROVALS HAVE NOT BEEN PREVIOUSLY ATTAINED BY OWNER.
10. CONTRACTOR TO NOTIFY ALL UTILITIES FORTY-EIGHT (48) HOURS PRIOR TO DEMOLITION AND/OR EXCAVATION. CALL 811 OR 1-800-632-4949 SO THAT
UNDERGROUND UTILITIES MAY BE FIELD LOCATED (WWW.NC811.ORG).
11. ALL SOIL EXCAVATION, BACKFILL AND USAGE TO BE DONE UNDER THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF A CERTIFIED SOIL TESTING LABORATORY.
12. CONTRACTOR TO MAKE FIELD ADJUSTMENT, AS NECESSARY, WITH THE APPROVAL OF THE OWNER, ENGINEER AND MUNICIPALITY WHEN REQUIRED.
13. PROTECTION OF EXISTING STORM SEWER SYSTEMS: DURING CONSTRUCTION, ALL STORM SEWER INLETS IN THE VICINITY OF THE PROJECT SHALL BE PROTECTED BY
SEDIMENT TRAPS SUCH AS SECURED HAY BALES, SOD, STONE, ETC., WHICH SHALL BE MAINTAINED AND MODIFIED AS REQUIRED BY THE CONSTRUCTION PROCESS.
14. MAINTENANCE: ALL EROSION AND SILTATION CONTROL DEVICES SHALL BE CHECKED REGULARLY, ESPECIALLY AFTER EACH RAINFALL, AND WILL BE CLEANED OUT
AND/OR REPAIRED AS REQUIRED.
15. ALL PRACTICAL AND NECESSARY EFFORT SHALL BE TAKEN DURING CONSTRUCTION TO CONTROL AND PREVENT EROSION AND TRANSPORT OF SEDIMENT MATERIAL
TO ANY JURISDICTIONAL WATERWAY OR BODY. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL RESTORATION EFFORTS THAT MAY BE REQUIRED.
16. CONTRACTOR TO VERIFY ALL PLAN DIMENSIONS AND SITE CONDITIONS, NOTIFY ARCHITECT/ENGINEER TO ANY DISCREPANCIES BETWEEN SITE CONDITIONS AND
INFORMATION SHOWN ON DRAWINGS PRIOR TO COMMENCING WORK.
24. CONSTRUCTION SHALL COMPLY WITH ALL APPLICABLE GOVERNING CODES AND BE CONSTRUCTED TO THE SAME. ALL CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE
WITH THE LATEST EDITION OF THE NCDOT DETAILS AND NCDOT STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS FOR ROADS AND STRUCTURES, UNLESS MODIFIED BY THESE PLANS.
NCDOT DETAILS AND SPECIFICATIONS SUPERCEDE PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS WHEN CONFLICT EXIST.
25. THE CONTRACTOR IS SPECIFICALLY CAUTIONED THAT THE LOCATION AND/OR ELEVATION OF EXISTING UTILITIES AS SHOWN ON THESE PLANS IS BASED ON
RECORDS OF THE VARIOUS UTILITY COMPANIES, AND WHERE POSSIBLE, MEASUREMENTS TAKEN IN THE FIELD. THE INFORMATION IS NOT TO BE RELIED ON AS
BEING EXACT OR COMPLETE. THE CONTRACTOR MUST CALL THE APPROPRIATE UTILITY COMPANIES AT LEAST 3 BUSINESS DAYS BEFORE ANY EXCAVATION TO
REQUEST EXACT FIELD LOCATION OF UTILITIES. IT SHALL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONTRACTOR TO RELOCATE ALL EXISTING UTILITIES WHICH CONFLICT WITH
THE PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS SHOWN ON THE PLANS.
26. ALL EXISTING CATCH BASINS AND PIPES TO REMAIN IN SERVICE SHALL BE CLEANED OUT TO REMOVE ALL SILT AND DEBRIS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER OR NOT
THEY WERE MODIFIED AS PART OF THIS PROJECT.
27. CONTRACTOR SHALL CONSTRUCT 'POSITIVE' OR 'NEGATIVE' CURB PROFILES AS APPROPRIATE TO ENSURE POSITIVE DRAINAGE. THIS SHALL BE DETERMINED IN THE
FIELD BY THE CONTRACTOR AT THE TIME OF CONSTRUCTION.
28. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL ADHERE TO ALL TERMS & CONDITIONS AS OUTLINED IN THE N.P.D.E.S. PERMIT FOR STORM WATER DISCHARGE ASSOCIATED WITH
CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES.
29. CONTRACTOR SHALL ASSURE POSITIVE DRAINAGE AWAY FROM BUILDINGS FOR ALL NATURAL AND PAVED AREAS.
30. ALL UNSURFACED AREAS DISTURBED BY GRADING OPERATION SHALL RECEIVE A MINIMUM 3 INCHES OF TOPSOIL. CONTRACTOR SHALL APPLY EROSION CONTROL
MATTING TO ALL SLOPES. CONTRACTOR SHALL STABILIZE DISTURBED AREAS IN ACCORDANCE WITH GOVERNING SPECIFICATIONS UNTIL A HEALTHY STAND OF
VEGETATION IS OBTAINED.
31. CONTRACTOR IS TO CONTACT ENGINEER IMMEDIATELY UPON DISCOVERING ANY DISCREPANCIES BETWEEN HARD COPY PLANS AND DIGITAL FILES.
32. CONTRACTOR SHALL NOT BURN ANY WOOD MATERIALS ON -SITE. CLEARED VEGETATION SHALL BE CHIPPED AND/OR LOGGED AND HAULED AWAY. NO MATERIALS
SHALL BE BURIED ON -SITE.
33. AREA OUTSIDE OF DISTURBANCE LIMITS ARE TO BE LEFT UN -DISTURBED.
