City of Laurinburg Project Summary
US 401 Industrial Park Sewer Service
The City of Laurinburg plans to provide water and sewer service for an industry to be located
in the new industrial park on US 401 Bypass at Heck Norton Road. The facility would utilize
untreated groundwater for process water and fire protection, and City of Laurinburg potable
water for domestic purposes. Both would be discharged to the Laurinburg sewer system for
treatment and disposal. The new industry has established an aggressive implementation
schedule and requires partial service in early 2014, with additional capacity available later in
the year. Even with an expedited schedule, it is unlikely these facilities could be completed
by early 2014. It is therefore necessary to provide facilities in several phases.
Initial sewer service should be capable of handling 200,000 gallons per day (gpd) discharged
in a single 8-hour shift. After expansion of the facilities, the total wastewater flow is expected
to be as much as 1.8 million gallons per day (MGD), discharged uniformly over a 5-day
workweek.
