Pretreatment Review of Industrial User Permit — IUP Notification

Dear Ms. Dawes:
The Municipal Unit of the Division of Water Resources has reviewed the Industrial User Pretreatment Permit
(IUP) submitted for renewal by the City of Asheboro for the following Significant Industrial User (SIU). The IUP
was received by the Division on June 23, 2021.

The review indicates that City of Asheboro's NPDES permit renewal is currently under review. Until an updated
Headworks Analysis (HWA) has been reviewed and approved, the Division will defer making a final decision
on the adequacy of the IUP for this SIU. Therefore, as allowed by 15A NCAC 2H .0917 (g), the Division's
thirty -day comment period will be suspended until an updated HWA has been reviewed and approved, and at that
time the full 30-day comment period will recommence. You are encouraged to notify the affected industry of the
extension of the Division's comment period.
Federal and State pretreatment regulations require the local delegated pretreatment program to effectively control
and document the discharge of wastewater from Significant/Categorical Industrial Users to the POTW. It is the
POTW's responsibility to ensure that these objectives are consistently met.
