Inspection Summary:
Technical Assistance site visit in response to submittal of Notice of Intent (NOI) application for coverage under the NPDES
NCG020000 Stormwater General Permit for mining activities. Site is currently an agricultural field where no grading or
excavation activities associated with the proposed mine have occurred. Prior to the site visit, a discussion regarding
information on the NOI was held with Tracy Davis (consultant) on June 7, 2021. Based on the NOI, an application for a
mining permit was filed simultaneously. Mine dewatering is not proposed and there will be no washing of mined materials or
discharges of process wastewater. A skimmer basin designed for the 25-year storm is proposed to be located at the
southern end of the site as part of the erosion and sedimentation control measures for the initial site work until internal
drainage is established. Based on the site location, the nearest receiving stream for potential stormwater discharges would
be an unnamed tributary of the Cape Fear River, Stream Index 18-(26), Class C in the Cape Fear River Basin. Staff with the
Fayetteville Regional Office have no objections to issuance of coverage under the NCG020000 Stormwater General Permit.
