Re: Town Creek Mitigation Site, Davidson County, WBS # 34163.1.1; TIP No. 1-2511 CB,
Action ID No. 200221534; DWQ Project No. 040271
Mr. Thomas:
As you are aware, the Department has monitored the Town Creek stream relocation site since its
construction in December of 2006. The Town Creek site is located in Rowan county adjacent to
I -85 at Exit #79 for Spencer. The site consists of approximately 1,375 linear feet of stream
relocation that was used to offset impacts associated with the I- 2511CB project. The stream
relocation was constructed and re- vegetated with appropriate hardwood species with reforestation
completed on December 13`I', 2006. Per permit requirements, NCDOT was required to monitor
the stream relocation for channel stability and survival of planted species by visual observation
on an annual basis for five years or until success criteria were met.
During the monitoring period, annual monitoring reports were submitted to the appropriate
regulatory agencies via the Natural Environment Section's (NES) website:
https: / /connect. ncdot. gov/ resources /Environmental /Pages/Permits- and- Miti ,gation. aspx
After five years of vegetation and stream stability monitoring, the Town Creek stream relocation
indicates that the planted vegetation is surviving and the streambanks remain stable at this time.
Individual annual monitoring reports are available on NES's website for 2008 -2012.
