LABORATORY NAME: Town of Troy
ADDRESS: 650 Glen Road
Troy, NC 27371
CERTIFICATE NO: #5350
DATE OF INSPECTION: February 24, 2005
TYPE OF INSPECTION: Field Certification Inspection
EVALUATOR: Ms. Tonja Springer
LOCAL PERSON CONTACTED: Mr. Joseph Shields
I. INTRODUCTION:
This laboratory was inspected to verify its compliance with the requirements of 15A NCAC 2H .0800 for the analysis
of environmental samples.
II. GENERAL COMMENTS:
The inspection consisted of reviewing data for NPDES #NC0028916. The staff is congratulated for doing an
excellent job of implementing the laboratory certification program. Very good bench sheets and forms are used.
The laboratory is of adequate size and well equipped. All equipment is well maintained. Records are well kept and
the data appeared accurate.
Comment: For all benchsheets, it is recommended that the lab indicate which edition of the method is being
referenced. This will aid the analysts, when method changes are promulgated by EPA, to maintain adequate
documentation of their data.
III. DEFICIENCIES, REQUIREMENTS, COMMENTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS,:
Total Residual Chlorine:
Comment: The facility has a UV system and only keeps the chlorine as a backup. An annual verification curve is
analyzed by Meritech.
Comment: As a reminder, the gel standards should be checked when the annual verification curve is analyzed.
Record and document that reading. That reading will be assigned as the true value for the gel standard until the next
time the annual calibration verification is done. It is recommended that the true value be documented on the gel
standard box and the benchsheet. The gel standards can be used passed the expiration date as long as the daily
check meets the + 10% criteria and the gels show no sign of deterioration.
IV. PAPER TRAIL INVESTIGATION:
A paper trail was conducted at this facility. This consisted of comparing laboratory bench data with DMR reports.
There were no transcription errors detected.
V. CONCLUSIONS:
No deficiencies were found during the inspection. No response is required.
