Hunt, Jr., Governor Jonathan B. Howes, Secretary Leesha Fuller, Regional Manager March 28, 1994 Ms. Gisele Comer City of Lexington 28 West Center Street Lexington, N.C. 27292 SUBJECT: Total Nitrogen Computation Lexington Regional WWTP DMRs NPDES No. NC0055786 Davidson County Dear Ms. Comer: NrxrA Ai, EHNR DIVISION OF ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT / \At .AID ,fit ' VAR As you are aware, you recently called our Office to report that the computations for Total Nitrogen on your DMRs did not include Ammonia Nitrogen in their sums. You explained that the mistake was inadvertent, and had been brought to your attention during a laboratory inspection by Mr. Jim Meyer with the Division's Laboratory Certification Unit. You also asked what needed to be done to correct the deficiency. As a result of our conversation, I contacted Kent Wiggins, Supervisor, of the Water Quality Facility Assessment Unit. The Facility Assessment Unit deals with compliance issues related to the self -monitoring program. Upon review of your situation, and in view of the fact that Total Nitrogen is not limited by your Permit, it has been decided that the following course of action would be most appropriate: In lieu of correcting each DMR individually, recompute the Total Kjeldahl values including the Ammonia Nitrogen component, and compile the corrected values in letter form. The corrections should extend as far back in time as possible, and at a minimum shall encompass the three (3) preceding years, the amount of time records are required to be maintained under Part II, Section D, 6 of your NPDES permit. Upon completion of the above, submit the corrected data, with a copy of this letter attached, to the Facility Assessment Unit. 8025 North Point Boulevard, Suite 100, Winston -Salem, North Carolina 27106-3203 Telephone 919-896-7007 FAX 919-896-7005 An Equal Opportunity Affirmative Action Employer 50% recycled/ 10% post -consumer paper Ms. Gisele Comer March 28, 1994 Page #2 Should you have questions on this, or other matters, please contact me at (910) 896- 7007.
