Marcol Dredging, overseen by Southern Dredging, completed all dredging work late last week and our survey office told me today that the District has accepted the after - dredge survey as being indicative of completion. Marcol is demobilizing theioff Island D and should be done by the end of this week. Southern Dredging is dredging the federal channel adjacent to Isl D in the next few weeks, so activity will continue on the island. Our inspectors will continue their Quality Assurance reviews, so there are still opportunities to go to Island D for anyone who'd like to go. Thanks to you all for your assistance and the sharing of your comments and observations on both the unauthorized activity and the window extension. If there are any questions or you need more info, including pictures, please don't hesitate to contact Jessica Mallindine or me. Jeff Richter Environmental Resources Section Wilmington Dist. The current window identified in the Coast Guard Regulatory and CAMA authorizations is February 14th. Due to mechanical and weather delays, the contractor has requested an extension through the end of the month with completion by February 28th. The contract currently has an estimated 8000 cy of material within 1600 linear feet of the project. Allowing a two -week extension is believed to be an aggressive deadline for the contractors to meet. The Corps is concerned that without completion of the dredging the Coast Guards ability to utilize the channel will be inhibited to a degree at which it would impact missions. We are hoping to resolve the window extension ( whether it is allowed or not) prior to the window closing on February 14th. I apologize for the need for a fairly quick response but appreciate the coordination efforts.
