Relocation of Outfall
Dear Mr. Clement:
At the suggestion of Mr. Mike Mickey from the
Winston-Salem Regional Offices I am writing you,to
request an assimilative capacity study of Swearing Creek.
Because of technical and economic reasons we would like
to consider relocating our outfall from North Potts Creek
to Swearing Creek. I am enclosing a section of the USGS
topographic map which identifies both the existing
outfall and the proposed one. As you can see our
existing effluent lines cross Swearing Creek. This
relocation, in addition to reducing the total length of
the effluent lines by approximately 5000 feet, would
result in our treated effluent being discharged into a
stream with a significantly higher 7Q10 flow. Also this
section of Swearing Creek is not a part of the backwaters
of High Rock Lake which should result in much better
assimilation than is possible at our present location.
Our existing NPDES permit is scheduled to expire on
6/30/94 and we will be requesting a renewal later this
year. We would like to propose the outfall relocation as
a part of the renewal process which is the reason for the
request to conduct the study.
