Project Description — This project is a low impact bridge replacement project and is located to the
south and west of Denton The area is rural in nature and the surrounding terrain is rolling hills The
existing bridge on Hunt Road over Lick Creek was built in 1953 and is 35' long and 24 1' wide The
bridge is both structurally deficient and functionally obsolete and has a sufficiency rating of 34 95 out of
100 It is constructed of timber components The proposed bridge will be 70' long and 30' wide It will be
a concrete cored slab bridge on a concrete substructure The approach roadway on each end of the
bridge will be updated to current design standards and guardrail will be placed on each corner of the new
bridge where currently there isn't any guardrail The existing roadway will be widened slightly to meet the
new design standards for the traffic volume The new paved roadway width will be 20' as opposed to the
existing 19' and there will now be a 6-11" grass shoulder There will be no deck drains placed on this
bridge All surface water will drain off the bridge to the north end where the water will be captured in two
concrete drainage structure The water will then flow out through a 15" drainage pipe There will be a rip

rap energy dissipator at the outlet of the pipe The outlet of the pipe will be approximately 30' from the
edge of the stream The outlet area is flat and well vegetated All water from the roadway will flow
through vegetation prior to entering the stream, there will be no direct discharge into the stream
Currently all water from the bridge flows directly into the stream through the open bridge rail There will
be approximately 80 linear feet of impacts to Lick Creek to the southeast side of the bridge This is due to
the alignment of Lick Creek approaching the bridge /roadway and its close proximity to the proposed
bridge abutment and associated fill section The streambank will need to be armored to prevent the
stream from overwidenmg toward the bridge abutment and thereby causing erosion of the fill section that
the abutment is built upon The proposed armoring method utilizes filter fabric on the stream bank with
Class II rip rap placed over the filter fabric The rip rap will be 2' thick when placed on the stream bank
and will be toed in to prevent the stream from cutting under the rip rap The Class II rip rap is being
utilized to prevent the stream from washing any rip rap downstream and will also better protect the
streambank from overwidernng Currently there isn't any protection to prevent the stream from
overwidernng toward the bridge abutment
