D Impact Justification and Mitigation
1 Avoidance and Minimization
1 a Specifically describe measures taken to avoid or minimize the proposed impacts in designing project
The box culvert design has minimized permanent impacts by utilizing headwalls on each end allowing for a shorter structure
1 b Specifically describe measures taken to avoid or minimize the proposed impacts through construction techniques
Pipe installation is going to stay on the existing alignment and the road will be closed during construction This will reduce
temporary impacts by not using an on site detour and keeping the road open NCDOT will follow our best management
practices during bridge demolition and pipe installation and install erosion control devices to prevent loss of sediment from the
project
