Inspection Date: 04/12/2021
Owner - Facility: IMC-MetalsAmerica, LLC
Inspection Type: Compliance Evaluation
Permit Yes No NA NE
(If the present permit expires in 6 months or less). Has the permittee submitted a new ❑ ❑ • ❑
application?
Is the facility as described in the permit? • ❑ ❑ ❑
# Are there any special conditions for the permit? ❑ • ❑ ❑
Is access to the plant site restricted to the general public? • ❑ ❑ ❑
Is the inspector granted access to all areas for inspection? • ❑ ❑ ❑
Comment: The following processes are present at the facility:
Air Compressor — Oily water from the air compressor flows to the floor of the basement,
liquids are pumped into two tanks capable of holding up to 13,000 gallons. Heritage Crystal
pumps out said tanks Bi-monthly averaging approximately 4,500 Gallons.
Cooling Towers- new cooling towers installed at the facility coolers are closed loop with no
discharge; only discharge during maintenance. Maintenance related discharge goes into
wastewater collection system treated by the city of Shelby.
Boiler — has stopped working since the previous inspection and at the time the facility is not
planning on repairing or replacing the boiler. the boiler blowdown was the only discharge the
facility had and with it not being operational the facility has not been discharging. If the boiler
is repaired or replaced the facility will need to notify MRO staff, and boiler blowdown
discharge must be sampled semi-annually for PH, Flow and temperature.
Operations & Maintenance
Is the plant generally clean with acceptable housekeeping?
Does the facility analyze process control parameters, for ex: MLSS, MCRT, Settleable
Solids, pH, DO, Sludge Judge, and other that are applicable?
Yes No NA NE

Blowdown from the boiler goes into the storm water system. Boiler must be sampled
semi-annually for PH, Flow and temperature. pH calibration standards were out of date at
the time of the inspection. At the time of the inspection facility staff was instructed as to how
to properly calibrate, sample and record the required sampling.
