NOTICE OF CITIZENS INFORMATIONAL WORKSHOPS
FOR PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS TO INTERSTATE 77 TO CONSTRUCT
HIGH OCCUPANCY TOLL LANES
Project No 1331 IC & 14750 (HOT)
Mecklenburg & Iredell Counties
The North Carolina Department of Transportation ( NCDOT) will hold two public meetings called
citizens informational workshops regarding construction of High Occupancy Toll (HOT) lanes on
Interstate 77 These workshops will provide updated project information and allow the public to view the
study corridors
During the workshops citizens can meet NCDOT and Project Team staff and view aerial maps
of the project area from 4 7 p in Citizens will also have the opportunity to submit written comments or
questions which will be considered during the design phase Citizens are invited to attend either
workshop There will not be a formal presentation and the same information will be available at both
workshops
• Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at the Cornelius Town Hall, 21445 Catawba Avenue, Cornelius
• Thursday, August 2, 2012 at Ivory Baker Recreation Center, 1920 Stroud Park Court,
Charlotte
NCDOT proposes improvements to 177 by constructing High Occupancy Toll (HOT) lanes
Eligible carpoolers vanpools motorcycles and transit vehicles will be able to use the HOT lanes for free
while other travelers will be given the option to pay to use the HOT lane These projects in conjunction
with proposed improvements to 177 between 1277 and Exit 28 (public meetings were held in May 2012
on this portion) will provide continuous HOT lanes along the 177 corridor from 5h Street to NC 150
The purpose of the projects is to improve mobility and travel time reliability by managing the traffic flow
along these critical portions of 177 This approach will provide transportation options resulting in more
reliable local trips and overall network efficiency
The projects to be discussed at these workshops include
13 3 11 C proposes to construct HOT lanes on 177 from 5`h Street (Exit 10) to north of
185 near the Cindy Lane overpass & 1277 from 177 to North College Street Additional right of way
will be required
14750 (HOT) proposes to construct HOT lanes on 177 from West Catawba Avenue (State Road 5544)
Exit 28 in Cornelius to NC 150 Exit 36 in Mooresville Additional right of way may be required
