Pretreatment Annual Report
Period: January 1, 2020 through December 31, 2020
The Town of Wilkesboro had three Significant Industrial Users, Tyson Foods Inc., Wilkes County Landfill,
and Ashe County Landfill, in the year of 2020. All SIUs have current permits that have been approved. All
discharge monitoring was performed by the respective industries' laboratories, private certified
laboratories, and the Town of Wilkesboro's Cub Creek Lab as outlined by the Pretreatment Program.
There were no SIUs in Significant Non -Compliance for the year of 2020. There were exceedances among
multiple parameters that have been addressed on a case -by -case basis through Notice of Violations,
Notice of Deficiencies, and other avenues. These are summarized below:

The Town of Wilkesboro is in the Preliminary Engineering Report phase of a plant upgrade. During this
phase, we are also collaborating with our engineers and Tyson Foods to identify a solution, including
temporary processes, to aid both parties with staying in compliance. This will include a Consent Order
with interim limits for Tyson to provide them with additional regulatory relief until new alternatives are
approved and implemented. We are working diligently to ensure all SIUs can achieve complete
compliance moving forward.
