Subject Br 78 in Caswell and Br 87 in Rockingham Jerry I need the following additional information for the above referenced bridge projects Br No 78 in Caswell County 1 The plans show bank stabilization extending below the OHW (ordinary high water mark see detail B and the cross section) However the impact totals do not account for bank stabilization Please account for bank stabilization in the impact tables and in the project description Please be advised that if the limits of the bank stabilization extend beyond 40 you will need written authorization from DWQ R We will install temporary causeway with CL II rip rap to build proposed bent After construction of the bent rip rap for causeway on the temporary stream impact area will be removed and the rip rap on the bank area will be retained and converted to bank stabilization The Impact should not account for bank stabilization twice Therefore we do not show bank stabilization (A =0 01 Ac L =38 ) on impact summary We add a note on impact summary to explain this see attached Also we add this explanation in the project description on page 5 of our stormwater management plan see attached 2 Please describe what you are going to do with the stormwater from the bridge Will there be deck drains over the water2 R management of storm water from bridge was indicated on page 5 of our stormwater management plan see attached No deck drains over water see page 5 of our stormwater management plan Br No 87 in Rockingham County 1 The plans do not show a jurisdictional intermittent stream in the NW bridge quadrant Also there is a jurisdictional intermittent stream that crosses under the road from the wetland to the this intermittent stream Finally there is a perennial stream in the NE quadrant of the bridge Please update the plans to show these streams R the streams and associated buffers have been shown on attached pdf revised permit sketch 2 Look on the maps and determine if these additional streams are on the maps and if so account for any impacts to the buffer including parallel impacts if necessary R we will show additional parallel impact at NW quadrant see attached pdf Yellow is in zone 1 green is in zone 2 3 Please show all of the utility relocations that involve impacts to streams buffers wetlands and the mitigation site on the plans R only aerial power line relocation is involved see attached pdf The coordination has not been finalized yet Stream and wetland impact is not expected After relocation plan finalized we will show impact (may be additional parallel or mitigation stie impact) on the plans 4 Please provide diffuse flow prior to discharging stormwater into the buffer If this is unnecessary because you are utilizing existing ditches then please explain this in the haps / /mail nc gov /owa/ ?ae= Item &t =IPM Note &id= RgAAAADMSzLcd9W2TJH14 %2bm 3/7/2012 FW Br 78 in Caswell and Br 87 in Rockingham Page 3 of 3 permit application R The proposed roadway is in fill section and there are no proposed ditches at all 4 quadrants of the bridge Existing ditch is at SE quadrant This ditch ends before zone 2 and become sheet flow before entering zone 2 We will retain this ditch Therefore diffuse flow will be provided prior to discharge stormwater into the buffer at all 4 quadrants See page 5 of attached SWMP 5 Please clearly show the limits of the mitigation site on the NE and NW bridge quadrants It should be very obvious on the plans that the contractor cannot get Into these areas for any reason R approximate conservation easement line is shown in the attached pdf We will confirm and finalize the limits and show on the plans 6 Please verify that erosion control measures do not Impact the additional streams and the wetland The jurisdictional features mentioned above should be on the erosion control plans too R all erosion control measures are within existing right of way and do not impact the additional streams and the wetland We will show these jurisdictional feature mentioned above on our erosion control plans As a final note per your NPDES permit all projects require a written post construction stormwater management plan Neither of these have one Please provide one for each project R the written post construction stormwater management plan is no longer used by NCDOT Hydraulics Unit Instead the new format is used see attached SWMP The written part of description is shown on page 5 of SWMP If I don t get this information by next Friday I will have to put the permits on hold Thanks Amy Please note
