NOTICE OF A CITIZENS INFORMATIONAL WORKSHOP FOR THE
PROPOSED 1 77 HIGH OCCUPANCY/TOLL (HOT) LANES
FROM 1 277 (BROOKSHIRE FREEWAY) TO WEST CATAWBA AVENUE (EXIT 28)
STIP Project No 15405
Mecklenburg County
The North Carolina Department of Transportation ( NCDOT) in partnership with
the Mecklenburg Union Metropolitan Planning Organization (MUMPO) and the Federal
Highway Administration (FHWA) will hold a Citizens Information Workshop for the
above project on the following dates and times
Wednesday May 9 2012 from 4 p m until 7 p m in the Cornelius Town Hall
Community Room located at 21445 Catawba Avenue in Cornelius NC
28031
Thursday May 10 2012 from 4 p m until 7 p m at the NCDOT Traffic
Management Center located at 2327 Tipton Dr Charlotte, NC 28206
The same information will be presented at both meetings There will not be a formal
presentation citizens may come anytime
The purpose of the project is to improve mobility and reduce congestion by managing
the traffic flow along this critical portion of 1 77 This approach will provide transportation
options resulting in more reliable local trips and overall network efficiency
The proposed project includes converting the existing High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV)
lanes on 1 77 to High Occupancy/Toll (HOT) lanes, extending them north to Exit 28
possibly adding a second HOT lane in each direction All improvements would occur
within the existing right of way
During the workshops citizens can meet NCDOT and Project Team staff and view
aerial maps of the project area Citizens will also have the opportunity to submit written
comments or questions which will be considered during the design phase
