These ponds will allow for additional settling prior, to recycling of the wash water used in the stone mining process. The site visit by Mooresville Regional Office personnel indicated that the ponds (which were already constructed) were not located in a flood plain and appeared to be functioning properly. It is, therefore, recommended that the subject Permit be amended to include the two additional settling ponds. If you have any questions, please advise. The following recommendations are submitted: 1. No contaminant monitoring wells are recommended at this facility; however, I am concerned about the water levels in the area due to the quarry operation. Water level observation wells constructed into consolidated rock at this site would be desirable.
