Subject Request for a NW 3 Permit and DWQ 401 for the replacement of Low Impact Bridge # 01 over
Middleton Creek on SR 1 100 (Drummonds Point Rd) in Chowan County WBS # 45347 1 BDl
The North Carolina Department of Transportation is requesting the issuance of a NW 3 permit
and corresponding DWQ certification for the replacement of Low Impact Bridge # 01 in Chowan County
The bridge is located on SR 1 100 approximately 1 07 miles east of the intersection of SR 1 102 The bridge
spans Middleton Creek which is a tributary to the Yeopim River Middleton Creek is classified by DWQ as
class C Sw waters and designated as anadromous fish spawning waters Bridge # I is currently a wooden
structure with concrete deck that is 34 ft long by 25 ft wide This structure will be removed using
NCDOT s guidelines for bridge removal The proposed bridge will be replaced on its existing alignment
The new bridge structure will be 55 in length by 25 wide and built with precast cored slab concrete deck
concrete piles and concrete end bents An off site detour will be utilized during construction Jurisdictional
impacts resulting from this bridge replacement are totaled on the permit drawing and consistent with the
Low Impact guidelines This bridge is following the Low impact Bridge Process established by FHWA
NCDOT and Regulatory Agencies
