US 13 (Berkely Blvd) widening plans
Chad
I ran over these plans you gave me yesterday with Brian
We re satisfied that these are acceptable given the circumstances of the project (urbanized no space etc )
Be sure to include all of the information that is included here in the PCN application when you apply (Including reasons
the other treatment means weren t possible )
Thanks
Rob

Attached are pdf plan sheets for Berkeley Blvd Sheet 5 contains the system outfall I have added the 4 base
ditch with 3 1 side slopes as we talked about in the field last week in the field i said the total impervious area
was 4 acres This was an estimate and the actual total impervious area is 24 acres Based on this the 1 storm
(water quality event) discharge is 3 9 cfs The outfall ditch slope is 0 3% which gives us a water quality velocity
of 143 ft /s So we would be able to achieve a velocity less than 2 ft /s The ditch length from the outfall of the
system to the stream is 180
This ditch also works for the 10 year storm with a velocity of 2 36 ft /s and a depth of 124 ft (Q10 = 22 6 cfs)
We wouldn t be able to use a level spreader or preformed scour hole because of the amount of water (22 6 cfs
in the 10 year event) or detention pond due to the low elevation of the system The grade of the road is very
flat from Caudill Dr (Sta 48 +00) down to the outfall In order to make our system as high as possible we used
the minimum possible slope of 0 3% from structure 12 (controlling offsite DI) down to structure 3 This allowed
us to achieve an invert for structure 3 of 109 88 The elevation of the existing ground at the potential pond site
(property 3) is approximately 114 5 The elevation of the top of bank of the outfall stream is 112 5 Therefore
our system is over 2 5 lower than the top of bank of the outfall stream If we were to outlet our system into a
pond it would back up in the system up to the height of our emergency outfall (approximately 2 5 ) At 0 3%
system slope this would back up approximately 830 into the system Ultimately this would lead to catch basins
surcharging and causing potentially unsafe conditions for cars on the road Therefore I think our best option
and possibly only option for some treatment is the outfall ditch described above
Please review and let me know if you need anything else (supporting data) or have any questions
FYI the shaded areas on the sheets indicate the additional impervious area of 16 acres The boxes at the
bottom of each sheet describe the system elevations
Thanks
