To Whom It May Concern,
Sampling performed on December 14, 2020 shows an exceedance of the daily limit for fecal
coliform (FC) from the wastewater treatment system at Southern Veneer Specialty Products in
Moncure, NC. This letter is intended to notify NCDEQ of the exceedance and describe the
actions being taken in response.
The designated operator in responsible charge (ORC), Randall Jarrell, initiated an
investigation into potential corrective actions after receiving the analysis report. As discussed
in the October 28, 2020 letter to NCDEQ, Southern Veneer Specialty Products has performed
additional maintenance and made a design change to ensure the treatment system is properly
functioning. The exact cause of the issue is still unknown; therefore, the original system design
engineer and construction company have been contacted to troubleshoot the problem on -site
as soon as possible. Southern Veneer Specialty Products will ensure a thorough investigation
is performed, and all recommendations and remedies available will be pursued in a timely
manner. Potential system upgrades are also being evaluated to prevent future problems.
