This site is being utilized by the North Carolina Department of Transportation as compensatory mitigation for stream relocation impacts associated with project R-2000AB, the 1-540 Outer Loop. On May 26, 2011, Rob Ridings of DWQ participated in an inter-agency field visit to review the site and verify the final mitigation boundaries. As stated in your letter, 1299 linear feet of stream relocation was achieved on site. By copy of this letter, we are notifying you that no further monitoring of the site will be required since the construction and success criteria for the mitigation site has been met. Located in Wake County, adjacent to the NC 540 Northern Wake Expressway at Sta. 10+41 -YRPA-, this site provides 1,299 lineaz feet of stream relocation for impacts associated with the R-2000AB project. The stream relocation was constructed and revegetated with appropriate hazdwood species. Per permit requirements, NCDOT was required to monitor the stream mitigation site for channel stability by visual observation on a biannual basis for five years or until success criteria were met. During the monitoring period, biannual monitoring reports were submitted to the appropriate regulatory agencies via the PDEA Natural Environment Unit's (NEU) website: htlp //www ncdot orQ/doh/preconstruct/pe/nezdMonitorinQ/MonitorinpReports hnnl After five years of vegetation and stream stability monitoring, the UT to Kit Creek stream relocation indicates that the planted vegetation is surviving and the streambanks remain stable at this time. It was determined at that meeting that the site success criteria had been met and that no further monitoring would be required. NCDOT requests that the appropriate resource agencies provide documentation stating that no further monitoring is required and that the site is closed.
