Subject: Maynard Road Stream Restoration - Dorothy Park, Town of Cary

Background:
As you are aware, the Town plans to extend the stream restoration project all the way to the upstream end of Dorothy
Park. The people living adjacent to the park had expressed concern and indicated that they wanted the Town to
retain some of the lawn areas within the park. As a result, the Town of Cary narrowed the buffer to retain some lawn
areas and, in response, you folks agreed to a slightly reduced credit ratio on the Dorothy Park reach of the stream
restoration project. In response to concerns from the local residents about the "weedy" appearance of the proposed
naturalized buffer area, the Town has committed to "jump start" the naturalization process. In addition to the grass
and streambank livestaking, this includes a commitment to planting 3-gallon sized shrubs on 5-foot centers and 3 inch
caliper sized trees on 12' centers -- this represents a significant increase in the density and size of the material being
planted to establish the buffer for the Dorothy Park reach. I have attached a copy of the two plan sheets that cover
Dorothy Park so that you can have a look at the proposed plan.
The Town is confident that this planting plan will make the local residents happy and the regulators happy. But, prior
to presenting the planting plan to the local residents, the Town wants to confirm that the USACE and DWQ are okay
with the planting plan and that the Town will be eligible for the stream restoration credits before they present the plan
to the local residents.
Request:
Please review and confirm the proposed olantino plan and confirm that the the Town will be elioible for stream
restoration credits at the previously agreed upon reduced credit ratio.
