The approved July 12, 2010 Corrective Action Plan (CAP) included Oxygen Releasing Compound (ORC) installation in wells CSAMW-3 and DDMW-2, to enhance hydrocarbon biodegradation, and semi-annual groundwater sampling until the groundwater meets DENR's 2L Standards. Semi-annual sampling was first conducted in October 2010 and this report covers the period through November 5, 2012. METHODS AND ❑BSERVATIONS SAIC measured water levels (Table 1) and groundwater field parameters, pH, temperature, oxidation reduction potential (ORP), dissolved oxygen (DO), and specific conductance (Table 2), in the dispenser pad wells prior to ORC installation. Pursuant to receipt of an underground injection control (LIIC) permit, SAIC installed socks containing approximately 15 pounds of ORC each in wells CSAMW-3 and DDMW-2 on April 14, 2011. SAIC measured water levels and field parameters on June 11, 2011, July 14, 2011, October 20, 2011, January 4, 2012, April 11, 2012, and November 5, 2012. The ORC in CSAMW-3 and DDMW-2 was replaced during the November 5, 2012 monitoring event. On November 5, 2012, no liquid -phase hydrocarbon (LPH) was measured in any monitoring well. Groundwater elevations ranged from approximately 1 foot higher to 5.feet lower than the previous sampling in April 2012, however, the hydrologic gradient remained southwest, consistent with previous observations (Figure 2)_ Monitoring wells CSAMW-1, CSAMW-2, CSAMW-3, CSAMW-4, and DDMW-2 were purged and sampled in accordance with the approved CAP and ASTM Method D-4448. Groundwater samples were collected, placed in laboratory -provided glassware, and preserved according to ASTM Method ❑-3694. They were submitted to Accutest Laboratory for analysis of Massachusetts Department of the Environment (MADEP) volatile petroleum hydrocarbons (VPH) and extractable petroleum hydrocarbons 63'10 Allentown Boulevard I Harrisburg, PA 17112 I tel: 717.901.8100 1 www.saic.com Ms. Mindy Lepard - 2 - January 7, 2013 (EPH). Analytical results are compared to historical results and 2L Standards on Table 3. Copies of laboratory reports are included as Attachment A. FINDINGS Groundwater sample analytical results from the November 5, 2012 sampling event at the diesel dispenser pad indicated VPH concentrations were less than the historical results and the 2L Standards. EPH concentrations were less than detection limits, however, detection limits were raised compared to the historical results and the 2L Standards. Monitoring wells CSAMW-1 and CSAMW-2 south of the dispenser pad met 2L Standards as previously documented. Dissolved oxygen (DO) concentrations for all monitoring wells ranged between 3.32 and 10.64 milligrams per liter (mg/L), with the higher values at DDMW-2 and CSAMW-3. The ORC in these wells appeared to have been maintaining high DO concentrations promoting hydrocarbon biodegradation. Consistent with previous assessments of the site, the potential of impact from the site to human receptors (water wells) remains low. Groundwater migration rates are slow and down -gradient wells CSAMW-1 and CSAMW-2 met 2L Standards. Human receptors are topographically higher and hundreds of feet away, Based on the conditions measured at the diesel dispenser pad, SAIC and TA recommend continued semi-annual monitoring for Incident No. 30318. The next scheduled semi-annual sampling is April 2013. Please contact the undersigned at (717) 901-8843 should you have any questions or concerns.
