These rainfalls have created recurring flooding downstream from Olde Mariner's Village subdivision, in areas that historically have not experienced flooding. During investigations for this flooding it became apparent that the Olde Mariner's Village retention pond is staying at a very high level. This is being caused by a non-operational drawdown orifice on the southern end of the pond. This device should drain the pond in a reasonable amount of time for water quality purposes and to allow for storage capacity of stormwater runoff for future events. With the drawdown orifice not functioning, the pond stays at capacity and this overflows immediately upon heavy rains, adversely affecting properties downstream. Please make arrangements to have the drawdown orifice returned to its original functioning state and to have the overflow basin cleaned. This needs to happen in a short time span due to possible future rainfall events that will continue to have negative consequence to downstream properties. If I can provide any further clarification or assistance, please feel free to contact me. Thank you for your attention in this pressing matter. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Brian Stanberry Assistant Operations Director Town of Carolina Beach
