SUBJECT Land & soils evaluation of the David Bradley Broad Creek Tract (-2 acres) to
determine usability with infiltration stormwater treatment usage Tract located on
the north side of NC Hwy 24, adjacent to Bogue Pines Mobile Home Park, Broad
Creek area, Carteret County, NC PIN # 6326-03-11-6940
TO Mr David G Bradley
3014 Circle Drive
Morehead City, NC 28557
(252) 727-9322, 247-7192 [fx], 240-9799 [m]
The land & soils within the David Bradley Broad Creek Tract (--2 acres) were evaluated to
determine potential suitability for on -site infiltration stormwater treatment usage NCDENR-DWQ
"Stormwater Management" rules and regulations (NCAC 15-2H- 1000) were used as guidelines
in making this evaluation
When the proposed protect is greater than 1 acre in size, has >25% impervious surfaces, is within
1/2 mile of, and/or drains directly to Class S A Waters or their unclassified tributaries, stormwater
must be treated by infiltration basins or an equivalent alternative method This tract appears to
be geographically located less than1/2 mile from Class S A and/or drains to an un-classifted
tributary to S A Waters (see USGS topo map) Thus, it appears this tract should have
stormwater treatment through an infiltration systems or equivalent method
This tract is located on a sandy ridge that has been historically landscaped and leveled with slopes
of 0-2% Elevations range from —30 ft to 35 ft (amsl, see USGS map) The tract consists of
moderately well to well drained natural sandy soils Hardpans (spodic horizons) may be
encountered at relative deep depths (+40") along the eastern portions of the tract
Principie soil and site requirements for an infiltration system are ---the infiltration system's bottom
must be 2 ft or greater from the seasonal high water table, ---must be capable of complete draw -
down within 5 days, ---the soil's hydraulic conductivity must be >0 52 in/hr, ---recent (>1977)
fill material is not usable, ---historic fill materials (<1977) can be used if it meets the minimum site
criteria stated above The enclosed land & soils map shows the various land/soil types found
(see soils map) The following are brief descriptions of these land & soil types for stormwater
infiltration usage
The "Green" Areas (see soils map) are well drained, sandy natural soils These soils have an
estimated seasonal high water static water table +55 to 75 inches from the present surface based
upon soil wetness indicators Estimated permeability is <6 - 12 min/in (+5-10 in/hr) to +70" ✓
depths These soil types should be considered as usable for infiltration stormwater systems with
bottoms +2 5 - 4 0 ft into the existing ground surface pending location Soil types found are
Baymeade and Kureb
Page I of
The "Yellow' Areas (see sods map) are moderately well to well drained, sandy natural soils
These sods have an estimated seasonal high water static water table +36 to 50 inches from the
present surface based upon soil wetness indicators Estimated permeability is <6 - 12 min/in
(+5-10 inlhr) to +70" depths These soil types should be considered as usable for infiltration
stormwater systems with bottoms +1 0 - 2 0 ft into the existing ground surface pending location
Soil types found are Baymeade, Rimini, and Seabrook
The "Brown" Areas (see soils map) are moderately well drained, sandy natural sods These sods
have an estimated seasonal high water static water table +24 to 36 inches from the present
surface based upon soil wetness indicators f Estimated permeability is <6 - 30 min/in (+2-10
inlhr) to +70" depths These soil types should be considered as usable for infiltration stormwater
systems with man-made sidewall berms and with bottoms at the present ground surface to 1 0 ft
into the existing ground surface pending location Soil types found are Leon -dry phase and
Rimini
This report and maps should be used for general planning and design purposes Careful planning
and engineered design should be exercised to insure the usable soil areas are reserved for
stormwater infiltration treatment, and relatively preserved in their natural state NCDENR-DWQ
Stormwater Section should be contacted for a their reviews, approvals, permits, and concurrence
of the proposed development and stormwater management system before initiating any
development activities Sod logs can be provided upon request
