Neil,
Corrections to attached spreadsheet in red. The I in the Rv equation is % Impervious
Area as a whole number; not a decimal, not % format. Therefore , 95 is entered in
the Rv equation and the number of Stormtech units increase. I'll FAX you 2 pages
from NCDENR's BMP Manual with an example calculation.

Can you look over these new calculations. It greatly reduces the amount of water
quality units that I need. Please review the attached pdfs. It is a little more
efficient in regards to junction boxes and pipes.
This is embarrassing, but I guess it is better to err on the conservative site.
In my mind, water quality requires a lot more space and room than it seems to be
in reality. i:;;
.r
I still have not figured out how to catch the water going onto the gas station at
this point. Is there any way we could direct the water to a small grassed swale
or something on the rear of the property?
Thanks,

RE: Water Quality Treatment Narrative for Carolina Beach Road CVS
RIL/R project #04-251
Mr. Weaver:
This project is located at 6435 Carolina Beach Road in the southeastern quadrant of the intersection of
Halyburton Memorial Drive and Carolina Beach Road (US 421). The property includes 1.677 acres and
the project will require about 1.5 acres of land disturbance.
To treat for stormwater quality on this site, we will be directing the first one and a half inches of rainfall
to StormTech infiltrator units as shown in the attached supplier brochure. These open -bottom units are
surrounded by stone. The stone is subsequently covered on the top and sides by filter fabric to prevent
particulates from the surrounding soil from entering the water quality treatment system.
The stormwater will enter the system through four surface drained inlets. Each inlet manhole will have a
sump that is lower than the exiting invert along with a turn -down exit pipe. This will provide additional
water quality for larger trash and debris which will be removed periodically. The flow will be controlled
by a baffle inside a downstream junction box. Once the water quality volume is met, the stormwater will
overflow and enter the primary underground detention pond. The first one and a half inches of rainfall
will remain in the chamber until it percolates into the underlying soil.
The soil in the area as described by the geotechnical report from Geotechnologies, Inc. dated 10-11-04:
"The subsurface profile encountered at this site consisted of l to 2 inches of organic material (topsoil,)
underlain by loose silty sands with penetration resistances on the order of 2 to 7 blows per foot (bpf). At
approximately 4 feet below the existing site grade, the borings typically encountered loose to medium
dense silty sands with penetration resistances on the order of 5 to 31 bp[."
We look forward to perusing this fast -track water quality permit with you and your staff. Please call us it'
you have any additional questions.
Respectfully,
Neil L. Jones, P.E

Remarks:
I talked to you about other sites in this area in the past (Southport and Kenansville
C\/5). Please call me if anything is insufflcient. Does a specific person at NCDENR
j determine whether or not LAMA requirements are to,be used for this site? As usual,
the county government official, Gary Mc5mith, uvith N',6W Hanover County, Said that he
didn't think CAMA requirements would be in affect, however, he said someone at
NGDENR would have to determine that. i ;
Please call me if you have any questions or if anything is insufficient.
Respectfully, a
