NCDOT requests authorization for the installation of additional sheeting to construct larger cofferdams for
demolition of the existing interior bents and the construction of the proposed interior bent caps.The
previously permitted plans depict temporary surface water impacts for sheeting around the proposed interior
bents for construction, but the contractor has indicated the cofferdam areas need to be expanded to
encapsulate the existing interior and end bents for demolition.The larger cofferdams would be constructed in
phases as to not significantly constrict the flow of Raccoon Creek. One phase would be installed for the
demolition of the existing bents and the construction of the proposed bent.After the construction of the
proposed bent,the first cofferdam would be removed,and the next cofferdam phase would be installed for
demolition of the remaining existing bents and construction of the final proposed interior bent.The larger
cofferdams would result in a total of 6,165 sq.ft. of temporary surface water impact, increasing the temp.
surface water impacts for the project to 0.16 acres.The dewatering operation would not result in impacts to
jurisdictional streams or wetlands.
