Corey Basinger, Regional Supervisor NCDEQ 610 East Center Avenue, Suite 301 Mooresville, NC 28115 Dear Mr. Basinger, WQRO') This letter is in response to NOV-2020-PC-0289, outlining the lime slurry chemical spill at the Hunley Creek Chemical Feed Site at 6752 Stevens Mill Rd, reported to the NCDEQ on 6/2/2020. This site is regularly checked but had not been visited within the prior two weeks due to the pump not being operational and heavy rains in the area. Since the time of our notification we have taken several steps that were recommended by the DEQ inspector who visited the site. These steps include: • Remove all contaminated soil • Install an eye wash station • Repair the driveway to allow for better access • Remove the hose that was temporarily run across the ground; feed hose to be installed in the PVC conduit directly into the manhole on site. • Improper containment • Properly label both tanks The first three bullets have been completed. The remaining actions are planned to be completed by the end of the month. If you have any further questions, please let me know. Sincerely, Andrew eff, UPE Water & Wastewater Division Director Cc: Hyong Yi, Public Works Administrator Josh Brooks, Asst. Diva Director, Water & Wastewater Matthew Ferrell, Maintenance Superintendent Greg Morgan, Utility Services Superintendent
