Mr. George L. Teague
North Carolina Department of Transportation

Salisbury, North Carolina 28147
Dear Mr. Teague:
". ;
J.`'
Reference your letter of October 15, 1993 regarding your plans to replace
Bridge No. 69-055 over Becky Branch on SR 1741 with a triple line of arch
pipes at a location north of Marshville, Union County, North Carolina.
On January 1, 1992, we renewed general permit, Action ID No. 198200031,
(copy enclosed), that authorizes the placement of fill material associated
with the construction, repair, or replacement of bridges across navigable
waters and waters of the United States in North Carolina, including
cofferdams, abutments, foundation seals, piers, temporary construction and
access fills, approach fills, detour fills, and box culvert installation, as
part of work conducted by or in full compliance with the standards and
specifications of the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT).
Your proposed work is authorized if you can comply with all permit
conditions. Please read the enclosed permit to prevent an unintentional
violation of Federal law. As this Department of the Army general permit does
not relieve you of the responsibility to obtain any other required approvals,
you should contact appropriate State and local agencies before beginning work.
Mr. John Dorney, NC Division of Environmental Management, should be contacted
at telephone (919) 733-1786 regarding a State water quality certification for
this work.
If you have questions, contact Mr. Steven Lund, Regulatory Branch,
telephone (704) 271-4857.
Sincerely,
G. Wayne Wright
Chief, Regulatory Branch

to place fill material in waters which are tributary to Becky Branch
for bridge replacement # 55 located at SR 1741 in Union County as

attached. This Certification may be used in qualifying for coverage
under Corps of Engineers' Nationwide Permit No. 26.
If this Certification is unacceptable to you, you have the right
