Upon review of your request for 401 Water Quality Certification to place fill material in
0.01 acres of wetlands or waters which are tributary to Little Pine Creek for road maintenance
located at.SR 11481 in Alleghany County, as described in your submittal dated 2 June, 1993,
we have determined that the proposed fill can be covered by General Water Quality
Certification No. 2745 issued January 21, 1992. A copy of the General Certification is
attached. This Certification may be used in qualifying for coverage under Corps of
Engineers' Nationwide Permit No. 3.

Re: Emergency Pipe Replacement on SR 1481 1/2 Mi. from the
Jpte^section of SR 1479 in Alleghany County, NC.
Dear ?fir. Jolly:
The North Carolina Department of Transportation, District I
Maintenance plans to replace an existing 30" (partially
collansed) pipe with a 36" CMP across the existing roadway.
Due to the hazard of the pipe, we are requesting a 404
Nationwide Permit (#3 Maintenance) from your agency.
I am sending a straight line sketch with the proposed
erosion control and pipe locations shown along with a marked
county map.
By cony of this letter I am asking Mr. Joseph Mickey, Jr.,
North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission District
Fisheries Biologist to comment directly to you concerning
the 404 Nationwide Permit Reauest.
This work does appear to involve a tributary to Little Pine
Creek, a desiginated Trout Water.
Also, by copy of this letter, I am requesting authorization
to proceed under Section 401 of the Clean Water Act from the
Divis on of Environmental. Management.
If further information is required, please let me know.
Your early review and consideration will be greatly
apnreciated.
