I'm adding Jason- I believe we were told by WRC that he and Byron had been discussing this project internally- please let me know if anyone else needs to be on this thread. We've expanded upon our sediment analyses to include annual yield estimates that show yield volumes relative to the impounded volume in the primary wedge. It suggests that the annual yield is going to typically come in at 2 — 3X the primary wedge volume. We will be refining our analysis and output for presentation in a technical memo. The information provided in the powerpoint slide pdf is a preview of what we're finding. Feel free to reach out to me if there are questions about anything in the attached, or otherwise. For the USFWS folks, I'd like to come by sometime and review the project with you all. Let me know if there's some additional data you'd like us to pull together before we do that and let me know what a suitable date/time would be. It is anticipated the meeting will be in Asheville at Wildlands' office. Plan on it being a 90 minute meeting with the following main agenda items: • Findings of Tier 1 sediment analysis- a copy of the report will be delivered ahead of the meeting • Predicted geomorphic response to dam removal • Preliminary approach concept map • Preliminary sediment management recommendations/options • Discuss agency concerns, project approach, etc. We will provide scoping letters in advance of the meeting that summarize the information that will be discussed and requests formal comment from USFWS, WRC, and DEQ in advance of submitting for permits. The SHPO/THPO letters went out today. We hope that this meeting can be an opportunity to review approach, primary concerns and develop solutions or additional questions so that a clear permitting path can be established towards the end of March at which time we anticipate to submit for 404/401 and floodplain permits. The attendees (in person or via call) that we will consider as necessary for the upcoming meeting are USACE, DEQ, WRC, and USFWS representatives. All others are welcome and encouraged to join in person or via conference call. I will send out a follow up email with final details on meeting time, place, call -in #. https://doodle.com/poll/chmkhw8gbcme6pcx fdoodle.coml If none of these doodle dates are options for either the 24t" or 28tn Thanks, Jake From: Jake McLean please let me know, by sending me an email, if you'd be available on Sent: Friday, January 17, 2020 2:58 PM To: 'Chris.Grubb' <Chris.Grubb@watgov.org>; 'Fuemmeler, Amanda J CIV (US)' <Amanda.Jones@usace.army.mil>; 'sue.homewood@ncdenr.gov' <sue.homewood@ncdenr.gov>; 'Leslie, Andrea J' <andrea.leslie@ncwildlife.org>; 'chris.goudreau@ncwildlife.org' <chris.Boudreau@ncwildlife.org>;'Derek Martin' <martindO1@appstate.edu>; 3 'hcwatershed@gmail.com' <hcwatershed@gmail.com>;'Erin McCombs' <emccombs@americanrivers.org>;'Jonathan Hartsell'<hartsellionathan@gmail.com>;'Andy Hill' <Andy@mountaintrue.org>; Mimi Caddell <mcaddell@wildlandseng.com>;'Graham.Fox@watgov.org' <Graham.Fox@watgov.org> Cc: 'Brubaker, Dan' <Dan. Thanks for attending, and to the rest of you for staying tuned. We are making good headway on our survey/geomorphic data processing and sediment work this month. We will push some additional information out to you all in the next couple weeks, likely with a scoping letter that asks for formal comments. Also, look for a meeting request soon (next week) to line up a date in February. We'd like to convene in February to discuss in greater detail our preliminary findings and those permitting considerations which need to be in focus as we move forward. By the meeting we plan to have a preliminary plan layout which shows the anticipated stream profile and geomorphic predicted redeveloping cross section geometry, as well as a draft sediment management report which helps quantify the impacts and management options for sediment. Apologies for the slow delivery on these minutes, but it's a good time to strike this conversation back up!
