"2012 Environmental Monitoring Report".
Dear Mr. Mosely:
Michael Shepherd, Jeff DeBerardinis, and Jason Green of my staff have reviewed the 2012
Environmental Monitoring report for fish community structure, fish tissue, and physical -chemical data
respectively. This report was received by the Environmental Sciences Section (ESS) on August 1s`, 2013.
Based on a review of the data provided, the fish community structure present in Hyco Reservoir is
comparable to other piedmont reservoirs of similar physical size and no concerns were noted. In addition,
no problems were noted in terms of the reported physical -chemical parameters.
In terms of fish tissue data, trends indicate very little change in metal concentrations in Hyco Lake fish
tissues although, along with other aqueous components, selenium concentrations in fish tissues did trend
up towards the Roxboro Steam Plant discharge which (based on previous data) is normal for this
waterbody. However, these levels remained well below the North Carolina Department of Human Health
Service's (NCDHHS) action level for human consumption (10 ppm Se wet weight). In addition, all of the
mercury concentrations for fish tissues were all below the NCDHHS action level (0.4 ppm Hg wet weight).
