Mr. John Hennessy Mr. Charles Brown, P.E., PLS Mr. Mark Hellman, Senior Right of Way Agent - Division 5 FHWA NOTICE OF A DESIGN PUBLIC HEARING FOR THE HOPSON ROAD (SR 1978) / CHURCH STREET (SR 1980) RAIL AND ROADWAY IMPROVEMENTS TIP Project No. U-4716 Durham County The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will hold a Design Public Hearing for the above proposed highway project on Thursday, January 14, 2010, between the hours of 4:30 pm and 7:30 pm, at the Archie K. Davis Conference Center (Meeting Rooms A & B), Research Triangle Park Headquarters, located at 12 Davis Drive, RTP, 27709. NCDOT representatives will be available in an informal setting to answer questions and receive comments regarding the proposed project. The opportunity to submit written comments or questions will be provided and is encouraged. Interested citizens may attend at any time during the above mentioned hours. Please note: there will be no formal presentation. NCDOT proposed rail and roadway improvements include: realignment of the North Carolina Railroad (NCRR) / Norfolk Southern Railroad (NS) tracks, construction of a grade separation (bridge) at the Hopson Road intersection with the railroad tracks, closure of the at-grade railroad crossing at Church Street and the adjacent crossing at Church Street / Miami Boulevard (NC 54), and extension of Church Street northward to intersect with Hopson Road. The purpose of the proposed project is to improve rail and vehicular safety within the project study area. Realignment of the rail lines will reduce the degree of curvature and improve rail operations. The grade separation of the railroad tracks and Hopson Road will improve safety, as well as the closure of the at-grade crossings at Church Street and Church Street / Miami Boulevard. A map displaying the location and design of the project and a copy of the environmental document, the Environmental Assessment (EA), are available for public review at: the NCDOT Highway Division 5 Office, located at 2612 N. Duke Street in Durham, the Town of Morrisville -Town Hall, located at 100 Town Hall Drive, in Morrisville, and at the City of Durham - Transportation Division, located at 101 City Hall Plaza (4th floor), in Durham.
