Venator Chemical has been a hot potato topic for years.
Lagoon was built on the flood plain to the Rocky River, unlined, in sandy soils.
I have ground water monitoring well test results on my desk and several of the monitoring wells tested high for nitrates
There is also some other old lagoons that have been filled -in that also are unlined.
Nick Coco of permitting and I conducted a walk through inspection of this facility last year. Ground water contamination
has long been an issue at this site.
Back in 2018 Venator Chemical was looking to upgrade their WWTP and close out the Lagoon. Due to cost the WWTP
upgrades have been shelved.
Last I talked to the ORC, two weeks ago, Venator was looking at cleaning out the lagoon and disposing of solids in
County Landfill.

Roberto,
Andrew and I had a conference call today with CO permitting and GW section regarding Venator Chemical permit.
There are significant concerns regarding the lagoons. You, Andrew and myself need to discuss at some point tomorrow.
There is going to be joint inspection at the facility with DWM staff in the near future to determine best steps forward.
Apparently, there may be GW violations at the site that need to be addressed.
At this point, we are not certain whose responsibility this site may fall to with respect to these violations.
CO permitting expressed concerns that the lagoons (or at least 1 of them) was not being properly managed.
We can talk on Thursday.
Thanks,
CB
