Each plant will discharge approximately 10, 000 gallons per day, therefore there will be a total of . 02 MGD (20, 000 GPD) discharged from both plants into Filbert Creek. Discharge 001 is located on West Mason Street and Discharge 002 is located off Ablemarle St. Even though the discharge points are not at the same location, the receiving stream is the same. The discharge points are marked on the map provided. The water plant softeners are regenerated with approx 800 gals of brine on a daily average. The Washington Regional office has concerns that the effluent may contain high chlorides and salinity values. The receiving stream is classified as Class "B-NSW" waters. Please note that freshwater under natural conditions would have a chloride ion content of 500mg/1 or less. If the effluent should happen to contain high chlorides and salinity values, the natural environment of the receiving stream and aquatic life could be affected. It is recommended to re-issue NPDES permit NCO007552 to The Town of Edenton including the monitoring request mentioned above.
