1. CONTACT UNC EHS AT (919) 883-7163 OR (919) 962-5507 TO SCHEDULE AND HOLD A PRE -CONSTRUCTION MEETING BEFORE INSTALLATION OF ESC MEASURES AND AGAIN ONCE ESC MEASURES IN PLACE.
2. CONTRACTOR SHALL FOLLOW THE UNC SPILL PREVENTION CONTROL AND COUTERMEASURE (SPCC) PLAN CONSTRUCTION SITE GUIDELINES.
3. SOIL TRACKED ONTO ROAD SHALL BE REMOVED USING A DRY REMOVAL METHOD ONLY. NO SOIL IS ALLOWED TO BE WASHED INTO STORM DRAIN.

9. CONSTRUCTION SEQUENCING 15 CRITICAL TO THE SUCCESS OF EFFECTIVE EROSION CONTROL FOR THIS PROJECT. REFER TO THE CONSTRUCTION SEQUENCE FOR PHASING OF THE CONSTRUCTION AND
INSTALLATION OF EROSION CONTROL DEVICES,
10. CONTRACTOR SHALL REFER TO SHEETS C-13 & C-14 FOR EROSION CONTROL DETAILS INCLUDING TREE PROTECTION FENCING, SILT FENCING, SEEDBED PREPARATION AND TEMPORARY SEEDING SCHEDULE ETC.
11. IF THE CONTRACTOR CHOOSESTO ADD POLYACRYLAMIDE (PAM) TO AID IN THE SETTLING OF SUSPENDED SOLIDS FROM STORMWATER DISCHARGE, THEYSHALL FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES BELOW:
A. PAMs MUST NOT BE APPLIED DIRECTLY TO SURFACE WATERS OF THE STATE.
B. THE APPROPRIATE PAM SHALL BE CHOSEN FOR THE SOIL TYPE AT THE SITE.
C. USE ONLY PAMs THAT PASS THE CHRONIC TOXICITY TESTING REQUIREMENTS, ESTABLISHED BY THE NCDEQ DIVISION OF WATER QUALITY.
D. BEFORE SPECIFYING USE OF POWDER OR LIQUID APPLICATION OF PAMs TO A SETTLING BASIN OR RUN-OFF CONVEYANCE, SUBMIT THE PARTICULAR PRODUCT'S LABEL, APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS, AND MSDS
TO THE NCDEQ DIVISION OF WATER QUALITY AQUATIC TOXICOLOGY UNIT FOR EVALUATION AND DETERMINATION OF THE PRODUCT'S SAFE APPLICATION RATE.
E. DOSING SYSTEMS USING PUMPS SHOULD BE CHECKED DAILY.

THE DIVISION OF WATER QUALITY.
B) A WRITTEN RECORD OF THE DAILY RAINFALL AMOUNTS SHALL BE RETAINED AND ALL RECORDS SHALL BE MADE AVAILABLE TO DIVISION OF WATER
QUALITY OR AUTHORIZED AGENT UPON REQUEST. IF NO DAILY RAIN GAUGE OBSERVATIONS ARE MADE DURING WEEKEND OR HOLIDAY PERIODS, AND
NO INDIVIDUAL -DAY RAINFALL INFORMATION 15 AVAILABLE, THE CUMULATIVE RAIN MEASUREMENT FOR THOSE UN -ATTENDED DAYS WILL DETERMINE IF
A SITE INSPECTION IS NEEDED. ( NOTE: IF NO RAINFALL OCCURRED THE PERMITTEE MUST RECORD "ZERO"

C) EROSION AND SEDIMENTATION CONTROL MEASURES SHALL BE INSPECTED TO ENSURE THAT THEY ARE OPERATING CORRECTLY. INSPECTION RECORDS
MUST BE MAINTAINED FOR EACH iNSPECTION EVENT AND FOR EACH MEASURE. AT A MINIMUM, INSPECTION OF MEASURES MUST OCCUR AT THE
FREQUENCY INDICATED BELOW:
I) ALL EROSION AND SEDIMENTATION CONTROL MEASURES MUST BE INSPECTED BY OR UNDER THE DIRECTION OF THE PERMITTEE AT LEAST ONCE
EVERY SEVEN CALENDAR DAYS, AND
ii) ALL EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL MEASURES MUST BE INSPECTED BY OR UNDER THE DIRECTION OF THE PERMITTEE WITHIN 24 HOURS AFTER
ANY STORM EVENT OR GREATER THAN 0.50 INCHES OF RAIN PER 24 HOUR PERIOD.
D) ONCE LAND DISTURBANCE HAS BEGUN ON THE SITE, STORMWATER RUNOFF DISCHARGE OUTFALLS SHALL BE INSPECTED BY OBSERVATION FOR
EROSION, SEDIMENTATION AND OTHER STORMWATER DISCHARGE CHARACTERISTICS SUCH AS CLARITY, FLOATING SOLIDS AND OIL SHEENS. INSPECTIONS
OF THE OUTFALLS SHALL BE MADE AT LEAST ONCE EVERY SEVEN CALENDAR DAYS AND WITHIN 24 HOURS AFTER ANY STORM EVENT OF GREATER THAN
0.50 INCHES OF RAIN PER 24 HOUR PERIOD.

DURING NORMAL WORKING HOURS, UNLESS THE DIVISION OF WATER QUALITY PROVIDES A SITE -SPECIFIC EXEMPTION BASED ON UNIQUE SITE
CONDITIONS THAT MAKE THIS REQUIREMENT NOT PRACTICAL. OLDER RECORDS MUST BE MAINTAINED FOR A PERIOD OF THREE YEARS AFTER PROJECT
COMPLETION AND MADE AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST. THE RECORDS MUST PROVIDE THE DETAILS OF EACH INSPECTION INCLUDING OBSERVATIONS, AND
ACTIONS TAKEN iN ACCORDANCE WITH THIS PERMIT. THE PERMITTEE SHALL RECORD THE REQUIRED RAINFALL AND MONITORING OBSERVATIONS ON THE

UNC Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plan
Construction Site Guidelines
Management of all fuel or oil in containers 55 gallons or greater in size shall be conducted in
accordance with the Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) requirements of the Code of
Federal Regulations, Title 40, Part 112 (40 CFR 112). These containers of fuel and oil are also subject
to the requirements of the UNC SPCC Plan.
Some general requirements are as follows:
• All containers shall be in good shape without significant rusting, pitting, or other evidence of
deterioration or damage.
• Berms and/or other barriers shall be used to protect stored fuel and oil containers from damage
due to construction activities.
• Adequatc secondary containment shall be provided for all containers.
• Containers of fuel and oil shall be located on level and stable ground and not in close proximity
to storm Sewer inlets.
• Facility lighting shall be sufficient to discover discharges occLUTing during the hours of
darkness and to prevent discharges from occurring through acts of vandalism.
• Fuel and oil delivery and transfer procedures shall be in accordance with the Fuel Transfer
Procedures as referenced in the UNC SPCC Plan.
• Signage shall be provided to warn facility personnel of above -ground piping and/or fuel
transfer operations.
All fuel and oil tanks shall comply with the following:
• Tanks shall be double walled with at least 110% secondary containment of the primary tank
volume.
• Tanks shall be equipped with a direct vision gauge that clearly indicates the liquid level within
the primary tank_
• Tanks shall be equipped with overfill prevention equipment consisting of either a high liquid
level alarm or high liquid level flow cutoff device set at 95% of the primary tank volume-
• Tank openings shall be securely capped and/or locked when not in use.
• Motor control for fuel dispensing shall be locked in the off position, except when fueling is
being conducted and will only be accessible to authorized personnel.
• A method to gauge the interstitial space between the primary and secondary tank walls using an
automatic detection device with audible alarm or manual gauging using a probe device shall be
available.
• A spill kit with sufficient sorbent, booms, and other cleanup materials shall be located in close
proximity to each fuel tank or drum. The spill kits shall be sized to prevent all potential
discharges related to the fuel tank or fuel loading activities from reaching storm sewer inlets.
Weekly inspections shall be conducted to inspect containers of fuel and oil that are 55 gallons or
greater in size for signs of damage, deterioration, and oil discharges. Deficiencies shall be promptly
remedied. Inspections shall be documented in writing, and records of the inspections shall be available
for review by UNC personnel.
Additional SPCC requirements are contained in 40 CFR 112 and the UNC SPCC Plan. The UNC

GENERAL NOTES
1. ANY DISCREPANCIES IN THE PLANS AND NOTES SHALL BE BROUGHT TO THE DESIGN ENGINEER'S ATTENTION IMMEDIATELY.
2. THIS STORMWATER CONTROL MEASURE WILL BE REQUIRED TO BE CERTIFIED BY UNC STORMWATER. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL MAKE HIMSELF FAMILIAR WITH ALL OF THE
OBSERVATION, TESTING, AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS OF UNC STORMWATER. UNC STORMWATER REQUIRES EXTENSIVE OBSERVATION, TESTING, AND CERTIFICATION
BY BOTH THE DESIGN ENGINEER AND THE GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEER PRIOR TO AND DURING CONSTRUCTION. IT SHALL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONTRACTOR TO
ENSURE THAT OBSERVATION, TESTING, AND CERTIFICATION EFFORTS ARE COORDINATED WITH THE DESIGN ENGINEER AND THE GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEER. NO CERTIFICATES
OF OCCUPANCY SHALL BE ISSUED BY UNC STORMWATER UNTIL THIS FACILITY IS ACCEPTED.
3. PRIOR TO ANY CONSTRUCTION OR PLACEMENT OF ANY BACKFILL, THE ONSITE GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEER SHALL INSPECT THE EXCAVATION AREA FOR THE SYSTEM WITHIN THIS
AREA TO ASSESS WHETHER SUITABLE SOILS EXIST AT THE SUBGRADE LEVEL. IF THE CONTRACTOR CONSTRUCTS SYSTEM PRIOR TO INSPECTION, THEN THIS AREA SHALL BE
UNCOVERED AND TESTED (TO THE ENGINEER'S AND OWNER'S APPROVAL) AT THE CONTRACTOR'S EXPENSE.
4. UNC STORMWATER SHALL BE CONTACTED FOR INSPECTIONS AT 919-923-8700 OR 919-962-2131 DURING IMPORTANT POINTS IN CONSTRUCTION.
5. THE FILTERRA SYSTEM SHALL NOT BE USED AS A TEMPORARY EROSION CONTROL DEVICE DURING CONSTRUCTION.

3. BIORETENTION SYSTEM SHALL BE CAPABLE OF STAND-ALONE STORMWATER TREATMENT. NO PRETREATMENT TO BIOFILTRATION MEDIA SHALL BE REQUIRED.

2. ALL POURED CONCRETE SHALL BE MINIMUM 3000 PSI (28 DAY) UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED.
3. ALL INTERNAL COMPONENTS INCLUDING ENGINEERED BIOFILTRATION MEDIA, UNDERDRAIN STONE, PVC UNDERDRAIN PIPING, MULCH, DISSIPATION STONE, AND
VEGETATION MUST BE INCLUDED AS PART OF THE BIORETENTION SYSTEM AND SHALL BE PROVIDED BY THE MANUFACTURER.
3.1. ENGINEERED BIOFILTRATION MEDIA SHALL CONSIST OF BOTH ORGANIC AND INORGANIC COMPONENTS. STORMWATER SHALL BE DIRECTED TO FLOW
VERTICALLY THROUGH THE MEDIA PROFILE, SATURATING THE FULL MEDIA PROFILE WITHOUT DOWNSTREAM FLOW CONTROL.
3.2. UNDERDRAIN STONE SHALL BE OF SIZE AND SHAPE TO PROVIDE ADEQUATE BRIDGING BETWEEN THE MEDIA AND STONE FOR THE PREVENTION OF MIGRATION
OF FINE PARTICLES. UNDERDRAIN STONE MUST ALSO BE ABLE TO CONVEY THE DESIGN FLOW RATE OF THE SYSTEM WITHOUT RESTRICTION AND BE APPROVED
FOR USE IN THE BIORETENTION SYSTEM BY THE MANUFACTURER.
3.3, PVC UNDERDRAIN PIPING SHALL BE SDR35 WITH PERFORATION PATTERN DESIGNED TO CONVEY SYSTEM DESIGN FLOW RATE WITHOUT RESTRICTION.
3.4. MULCH SHALL BE DOUBLE SHREDDED WOOD OR BARK MULCH APPROVED FOR USE WITH THE BIORETENTION SYSTEM BY THE MANUFACTURER.
3.5. VEGETATION SHALL COMPLY WITH THE TYPE AND SIZE REQUIRED BY THE APPROVED DRAWINGS AND SHALL BE ALIVE AND FREE OF OBVIOUS SIGNS OF DISEASE.
3.6. DISSIPATION STONE SHALL BE 3"-6" DIAMETER WASHED STONES OR COBBLES.
4. PRECAST CONCRETE VAULT SHALL BE PROVIDED BY MANUFACTURER OR AUTHORIZED SUPPLIER ACCORDING TO ASTM C857 AND C858.
4.1. VAULT JOINT SEALANT SHALL BE CONSEAL C5-101 OR APPROVED EQUAL. JOINTS SHALL BE SEALED WITH PREFORMED JOINT SEALING COMPOUND

4.2. IF INTERIOR CONCRETE BAFFLE WALLS ARE PROVIDED, BAFFLE WALLS SHALL BE CAST -IN OR SEALED TO THE INTERIOR VAULT WALLS AND FLOOR WITH A
POLYURETHANE CONSTRUCTION SEALANT RATED FOR USE BELOW THE WATERLINE, SIKAFLEX 1A OR EQUAL, CONTRACTOR TO PROVIDE SEALANT MATERIAL

5. ALL CONTRACTOR -PROVIDED COMPONENTS SHALL MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF THIS SECTION, THE PLANS SPECIFICATIONS AND CONTRACT DOCUMENTS. IN THE
CASE OF CONFLICT, THE MORE STRINGENT SPECIFICATION SHALL APPLY.
5.1. CRUSHED ROCK BASE MATERIAL SHALL BE SIX-INCH MINIMUM LAYER OF %-INCH MINUS ROCK. COMPACT UNDISTURBED SUB -GRADE MATERIALS TO 95% OF

CONSTRUCTION SEQUENCE
1. EXCAVATIONS LEFT UNATTENDED DURING THE CONSTRUCTION PROCESS SHALL BE MARKED APPROPRIATELY AND REMAIN IN COMPLIANCE WITH OSHA
REQUIREMENTS.
2. SET PRECAST VAULT ON CRUSHED ROCK BASE MATERIAL THAT HAS BEEN PLACED IN MAXIMUM 6-INCH LIFTS, LOOSE THICKNESS, AND COMPACTED TO AT LEAST
95-PERCENT OF THE MAXIMUM DRY DENSITY AS DETERMINED BY THE STANDARD PROCTOR COMPACTION TEST, ASTM D698, AT MOISTURE CONTENT OF +/-2% OF

IMPERMEABLE SURFACES SHALL BE CLEAN AND FREE OF DIRT AND DEBRIS. ALL CATCH BASINS, MANHOLES AND PIPES SHALL BE FREE OF DIRT AND SEDIMENT.
ACTIVATION SHALL BE PROVIDED BY MANUFACTURER OR AUTHORIZED SUPPLIER.
8. EACH CORRECTLY INSTALLED SYSTEM SHALL BE MAINTAINED BY MANUFACTURER OR AUTHORIZED SUPPLIER FOR A MINIMUM PERIOD OF ONE YEAR. THE COST OF
THIS SERVICE SHALL BE INCLUDED IN THE PRICE OF THE SYSTEM.
8.1. ANNUAL MAINTENANCE CONSISTS OF A MAXIMUM OF TWO [21 SCHEDULED VISITS.
8.2. EACH ROUTINE MAINTENANCE VISIT SHALL CONSIST OF ONLY THE FOLLOWING ITEMS: SYSTEM INSPECTION; REMOVAL OF FOREIGN DEBRIS, SILT, LOOSE PLANT

2. THIS STORMWATER CONTROL MEASURE WILL BE REQUIRED TO BE CERTIFIED BY UNC STORMWATER. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL MAKE HIMSELF FAMILIAR WITH ALL OF THE

STORMWATER SYSTEM GENERA. FURNISHING & INSTALLATION SPECIFICATIONS
1. CONTRACTOR SHALL FURNISH ALL LABOR, MATERIALS, EQUIPMENT AND INCIDENTALS NECESSARY TO INSTALL THE FILTERRA SYSTEM, APPURTENANCES AND
INCIDENTALS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE DRAWINGS AND AS SPECIFIED HEREIN.
2. FILTERRA SYSTEM SHALL UTILIZE THE PHYSICAL, CHEMICAL AND BIOLOGICAL MECHANISMS OF AN ENGINEERED BIOFILTRATION MEDIA, PLANT AND MICROBE
COMPLEX TO REMOVE POLLUTANTS TYPICALLY FOUND IN URBAN STORMWATER RUNOFF. THE TREATMENT SYSTEM SHALL BE A FULLY EQUIPPED,
PRE -CONSTRUCTED, DROP -IN -PLACE UNIT DESIGNED FOR APPLICATIONS IN THE URBAN LANDSCAPE TO TREAT CONTAMINATED RUNOFF FROM IMPERVIOUS
SURFACES.
3. BIORETENTION SYSTEM SHALL BE CAPABLE OF STAND-ALONE STORMWATER TREATMENT. NO PRETREATMENT TO BIOFILTRATION MEDIA SHALL BE REQUIRED.
4. THE BIORETFNTION SYSTEM SHALL BE OF A TYPE THAT HAS BEEN INSTALLED AND IN USE FOR A MINIMUM OF FIVE (5) CONSECUTIVE YEARS PRECEDING THE DATE OF
INSTALLATION OF THE SYSTEM. THE MANUFACTURER SHALL HAVE BEEN, DURING THE SAME CONSECUTIVE FIVE (5) YEAR PERIOD, ENGAGED IN THE ENGINEERING
DESIGN AND PRODUCTION OF SYSTEMS DEPLOYED FOR THE TREATMENT OF STORM WATER RUNOFF AND WHICH HAVE A HISTORY OF SUCCESSFUL PRODUCTION,
ACCEPTABLE TO THE ENGINEER OF RECORD AND/OR THE APPROVING JURISDICTION.

REGULATIONS IN RELATION TO CONSTRUCTION AND ON -GOING MAINTENANCE OF THE PROPOSED WATER QUALITY VAULT,
STORMWATER SYSTEM MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS
1. THE BIORETENTION SYSTEM SHALL MEET MINIMUM DIMENSIONS AS SHOWN ON THIS SHEET, AND MEET SPECIFICATIONS PROVIDED BY THE MANUFACTURER. THE SYSTEM
IS TO BE DESIGNED BY OTHERS. SHOP DRAWINGS OF THE SYSTEM SHALL BE PROVIDED TO THE DESIGN ENGINEER FOR REVIEW.
2. ALL POURED CONCRETE SHALL BE MINIMUM 3000 PSI (28 DAY) UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED.
3. ALL INTERNAL COMPONENTS INCLUDING ENGINEERED BIOFILTRATION MEDIA, UNDERDRAIN STONE, PVC UNDERDRAIN PIPING, MULCH, DISSIPATION STONE, AND
VEGETATION MUST BE INCLUDED AS PART OF THE BIORETENTION SYSTEM AND SHALL BE PROVIDED BY THE MANUFACTURER.
3.1. ENGINEERED BIOFILTRATION MEDIA SHALL CONSIST OF BOTH ORGANIC AND INORGANIC COMPONENTS. STORMWATER SHALL BE DIRECTED TO FLOW
VERTICALLY THROUGH THE MEDIA PROFILE, SATURATING THE FULL MEDIA PROFILE WITHOUT DOWNSTREAM FLOW CONTROL.
3.2. UNDERDRAIN STONE SHALL BE OF SIZE AND SHAPE TO PROVIDE ADEQUATE BRIDGING BETWEEN THE MEDIA AND STONE FOR THE PREVENTION OF MIGRATION
OF FINE PARTICLES. UNDERDRAIN STONE MUST ALSO BE ABLE TO CONVEY THE DESIGN FLOW RATE OF THE SYSTEM WITHOUT RESTRICTION AND BE APPROVED
FOR USE IN THE BIORETENTION SYSTEM BY THE MANUFACTURER.
3.3. PVC UNDERDRAIN PIPING SHALL BE SDR35 WITH PERFORATION PATTERN DESIGNED TO CONVEY SYSTEM DESIGN FLOW RATE WITHOUT RESTRICTION.
3.4. MULCH SHALL BE DOUBLE SHREDDED WOOD OR BARK MULCH APPROVED FOR USE WITH THE BIORETENTION SYSTEM BY THE MANUFACTURER.
3.5. VEGETATION SHALL COMPLY WITH THE TYPE AND SIZE REQUIRED BY THE APPROVED DRAWINGS AND SHALL BE ALIVE AND FREE Of OBVIOUS SIGNS OF DISEASE.
3.6. DISSIPATION STONE SHALL BE 3"- 6" DIAMETER WASHED STONES OR COBBLES.
4. PRECAST CONCRETE VAULT SHALL BE PROVIDED BY MANUFACTURER OR AUTHORIZED SUPPLIER ACCORDING TO ASTM C857 AND C858.
4.1. VAULT JOINT SEALANT SHALL BE CONSEAL CS-101 OR APPROVED EQUAL. JOINTS SHALL BE SEALED WITH PREFORMED JOINT SEALING COMPOUND
CONFORMING TO ASTM C 990.
4.2. IF INTERIOR CONCRETE BAFFLE WALLS ARE PROVIDED, BAFFLE WALLS SHALL BE CAST -IN OR SEALED TO THE INTERIOR VAULT WALLS AND FLOOR WITH A
POLYURETHANE CONSTRUCTION SEALANT RATED FOR USE BELOW THE WATERLINE, SIKAFLEX 1A OR EQUAL. CONTRACTOR TO PROVIDE SEALANT MATERIAL
AND INSTALLATION UNLFSS COMPLETED PRIOR TO SHIPMENT.
S. ALL CONTRACTOR -PROVIDED COMPONENTS SHALL MEETTHE REQUIREMENTS OF THIS SECTION, THE PLANS SPECIFICATIONS AND CONTRACT DOCUMENTS. IN THE
CASE OF CONFLICT, THE MORE STRINGENT SPECIFICATION SHALL APPLY.
5.1. CRUSHED ROCK BASE MATERIAL SHALL BE SIX-INCH MINIMUM LAYER OF'/4-INCH MINUS ROCK. COMPACT UNDISTURBED SUB -GRADE MATERIALS TO 95% OF
MAXIMUM DENSITY AT +/-2% OF OPTIMUM MOISTURE CONTENT. UNSUITABLE MATERIAL BELOW SUB -GRADE SHALL BE REPLACED TO ENGINEER'S APPROVAL.
5.2. CONCRETE SHALL HAVE AN UNCONFINED COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH AT 28 DAYS OF AT LEAST 3000 PSI, WITH %-INCH ROUND ROCK, A 4-INCH SLUMP MAXIMUM,
AND SHALL BE PLACED WITHIN 90 MINUTES OF INITIAL MIXING.
5.3. SILICONE SEALANT SHALL BE PURE RTV SILICONE CONFORMING TO FEDERAL SPECIFICATION NUMBER TT S001543A OR TT S00230C OR ENGINEER APPROVED.

10. TO ENSURE LONGTERM PERFORMANCE OF THE BIORETENTION SYSTEM, CONTINUING ANNUAL MAINTENANCE PROGRAMS SHOULD BE PERFORMED OR PURCHASED
BY THE OWNER PER THE LATEST OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL.
BACKFILL MATERIAL NOTES

Engineered Surface Drainage Products
GENERAL
PVC surface drainage inlets shall include the drain basin type as indicated on the contract drawing and referenced within the contract specifications. The ductile
iron grates for each of these fittings are to be considered an integral part of the surface drainage inlet and shall be furnished by the same manufacturer. The
surface drainage inlets shall be as manufactured by Nyloplast a division of Advanced Drainage Systems, Inc., or prior approved equal.
MATERIALS
The drain basins required for this contract shall be manufactured from PVC pipe stock, utilizing a thermoforming process to reform the pipe stock to the specified
configuration. The drainage pipe connection stubs shall be manufactured from PVC pipe stock and formed to provide a watertight connection with the specified
pipe system. This joint tightness shall conform to ASTM D3212 for joints for drain and sewer plastic pipe using flexible elastomeric seals. The flexible elastomeric
seals shall conform to ASTM F477. The pipe bell spigot shall be joined to the main body of the drain basin or catch basin. The raw material used to manufacture
the pipe stock that is used to manufacture the main body and pipe stubs of the surface drainage inlets shall conform to ASTM D1784 cell class 12454.
The grates and frames furnished for all surface drainage inlets shall be ductile iron for structure sizes 8", 10", 12", 15", 18", 24", 30" and 36" and shall be made
specifically for each basin so as to provide a round bottom flange that closely matches the diameter of the surface drainage inlet. Grates for drain basins shall be
capable of supporting various wheel loads as specified by Nyloplast. 12" and 15" square grates will be hinged to the frame using pins. Ductile iron used in the
manufacture of the castings shall conform to ASTM A536 grade 70-50-05. Grates and covers shall be provided painted black.
INSTALLATION
The specified PVC surface drainage inlet shall be installed using conventional flexible pipe backfill materials and procedures. The backfill material shall be
crushed stone or other granular material meeting the requirements of class 1, class 2, or class 3 material as defined in ASTM D2321. Bedding and backfill for
surface drainage inlets shall be well placed and compacted uniformly in accordance with ASTM D2321. The drain basin body will be cut at the time of the final
grade. No brick, stone or concrete block will be required to set the grate to the final grade height. For load rated installations, a concrete slab shall be poured
under and around the grate and frame. The concrete slab must be designed taking into consideration local soil conditions, traffic loading, and other applicable
design factors. For other installation considerations such as migration of fines, ground water, and soft foundations refer to ASTM D2321 guidelines.
